Mice enter houses through heating and ventilation ducts, from under floor boards, along plumbing or through broken bricks. They usually build their nests near a food source and forage at night, eatin the first morsel they come across. Keep all foodstuffs safely out of their way- in containers , cupboards or a refrigerator. Plug all holes however small, with cement or plaster reinforce with wire wool. Put down bigger traps to catch the mice use chocolate , nuts, cereals, peanut butter , but I found that a strong smelling sausage such as Spanish Chorizo, or Salami more affective bait. Place traps at right angles to the wall with the treadle towards the wall. To avoid catching your fingers, use a pencil to move the set trap into position. Try and place mouse traps and poison out of the way of family pets, and warn young children not to touch

Sticky traps. It's fun and easy. A cat works too. Then find out how they are getting in and stop them. Other wise all the mouse relatives will come to the funeral and move in.

Don't use sticky traps...those are cruel. Use a humane trap. The ones that you can free the mice. Of course, don't free them near your house. Each little creature has a role in nature, even that little mouse.

PS-you can buy small electric devices that you plug. Those devices emit ultrasounds and that scare the mice away.

put peanut butter on the trap, I know it's messy but the mouse can't just grab it and take off.

Sticky glue traps are easier to set and more reliable. Also, if you have "a" mouse, you probably have MANY mice.

tie that cheese to a trigger of a 12 GA. double barrel shot gun loaded with #7 bird shot. that will teach that mouse who is boss of that house. Please be careful don't point the gun at anything ar anybody except the mouse.

You could get a "mice cube". Mice go in to get the bait but can't get back out. It doesn't hurt them. There are also sticky pads that they run on to but can't get off of. If all else fails--decon.
