We have radient heat ( pipes in 1 1/2 inch light aggregate concrete) so our parquet flooring is glued to this cement base.
Some trades people advise tearing all the old flooring off and repairing damage caused to the cement base & then glueing new flooring down.

Other contractors recommend leaving the existing floor in place. Lift only loose pieces of floor & glue down a repair patch and then put a new floor directly on the old wood floor.

The logic seems to be , only a small portion of the existing floor has been lifted by the water. The rest of the existing floor is well glued down . To tear it off will cause damage & roughspots on the cement base and patching may not hold or the new floor may not be smooth . Better to just glue a new floor on top of the wood.
Others believe that gluing the new floor on to existing will lead to problems down the road???

All advice on how to proceed will be helpful.

Hi I'm renting a room in an older three bedroom house. The home does not have any smoke alarms installed. Im wondering if anyone knows if that is against the law or is it the owners right to decide on having them? The house is in Southern Californa. I have looked on the internet but couldnt find the answer to that question. If i were to call the fire dept I wonder if they would fine the owner? Thank you

There are many places that will make custom mat, but I would think that there must be a term for a mat that mounts four 8x10 pictures. I'm thinking to total mat size would be 20x24, but I definitely want an interior border. I'm getting too many useless results from the obvious searches.

I just got a tractor water sprinkler from my grandma who passed and I'm really excited about using it, except for the simple fact I can't get it to work : (. I rolled the hose out and placed the tractor at the end of the hose and faced it to where it will follow it's own hose back to the hydrant. It keeps stalling out and the hose kinks killing the pressure? Any tricks/tips/hints? I am in a conundrum.

From what I have learned, I want to use oil based agents. What I want to do is strip the table, make it glass smooth, stain it very slightly darker, and then give it a deep glossy finish but without all the fussing of a real french polish. It is a solid oak round table, and has some end grain around parts of the edges. I do have patience, but then also do not want to take all year to accomplish this. Please help.

Me and my husband live in a one bedroom flat. Its in a great position, its huge (the bedroom is big enough for a king size bed, 2 closets, a tallboy, bassinet and cot with plenty of room left over) its really lovely and very cheap. The baby is due in 2 weeks and I am a little concerned that we are going to need a second bedroom, we have been asked to sign a lease for another 6 months. Does anyone live in a 1 bedroom place and how difficult is it?

I am remodelling my master bathroom. I want to replace the existing (old) bathroom ventilation fan with a quieter and more efficient one. I noticed that the duct in the bathroom that connects to the fan is 3", while most of the bathroom fans in stores are 4-6". Any idea what I should do? Keep looking for a 3" duct fan and be limited to the selection? OR buy a 4" one and somehow get it to work with my 3" duct? OR change the duct in my bathroom to 4" (how much work is that?)? Im looking of course, for the easiest and most economical solution.

I have three layers; the backing fabric, the batting, and the sewn quilt itself. I'm supposed to have big, long stitches. Can someone please tell me an informative answer on how to baste my quilt? Thank you!
