First wipe out with soapy water soaked sponge, scratch off solid bits with your nail.
Then fill glass or china bowl with hot water and lime juice. microwave this for about 4 minutes, if it flows over the edge tip a bit down the sink. You want to get the steam into the bits inside you can't clean.
The steam can be wiped out with dry paper towel.
Do this often and the inside will stay clean and smell neutral.

I wet a sponge in vinegar and water. Then place it in the microwave for 1 minute. Use the sponge to wipe it out. It will be deodorized and the steam helps to wipe off anything that was stuck inside.

My mom said that if you mix that clear vinegar and water together and microwave for a while, it helps make it smell better, I don't know though.
Good luck.
You could also try cleaning it with a thin paste made with water and baking soda.
