No. Laundry detergent is soap. It washes your clothes and get them clean.

Fabric softener goes in the rinse cycle. It helps control static cling and makes your clothes softer.

No- detergent is a soap which is what cleans the clothes-you use it during the wash cycle. Fabric softener is used to soften the clothes and reduce static clean. Fabric softeners work by coating the surface of the cloth fibers with a thin layer of chemicals; these chemicals have lubricant properties and are electrically conductive, thus making the fibers feeling smoother and preventing buildup of static electricity-this is added during the rinse cycle.

No, fabric softener has no cleaning agents in it, it is only for the softening of the clothes in the final rinse, whereas detergent actually cleans your clothes. You don't have to use fabric softener when you wash clothes, but you do need to use detergent to get them clean

No they are not the same. Fabric softener is a rinsing aid for clothes (if added to the rinse water in washers) that makes your clothes softer, smell fresher and be less prone to wrinkling. It also makes them easier to iron and removes static cling. Fabric softener can also be added to the dryer. They make special sheets for this.

Detergent is what you add to your wash water to allow your washer to remove the embedded dirt in your clothes fibers.
Just like your wash your hands with soap when they are dirty--a washer needs detergent to be able to remove the dirt from your clothes
