The furnace sometimes has a problem firing and the installer(not hvac) thinks it is not getting enough air to fire. It eventually does fire. He removed a plug on the side of furace (about the size of a hockey puck) to allow more air in. It seems to work better but this is not how it is supposed to work. The intake is 3" pvc, 2 elbows, 18 ft long. He also measured gas pressure at two places. He thought the gas pressure coming in may be too high(12). he adjusted the internal pressure to specs. The intake pvc is not clogged. But if you remove it at the furnace it seems to fire normally. He seems to think that removing the plug is good enough. I want to make sure this is not bad for furnace and safe to run this way. Would an adjustable gas valve fix it?
Also, the gas water heater is still vented into chimney, it is in center of house. I have a slate roof so it is difficult to access chimney. The chimney has an elevated cover.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

My poor 10 year old kitty girl is being treated for a urinary tract infection, but last night, she urinated on my brand new microfiber sofa cushion. I've blotted out as much moisture as I can, but what can I do to remove the rest of the wetness and the smell? It's a blizzard outside, so I can't go running to the store for specialized cleaning items, but I do have regular household cleaning items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have remodeled many bathrooms but never one from scratch. I have a mother-in-law type house behind my house that I made from the garage. I framed off a room for the bathroom and ran the electric and planned where I want all my fixtures but I am unsure what to do now. Should I put flooring and drywall up or run plumbing first?

When I put my door down, it pauses for about 1 sec then goes back up. It has an electric eye that stops it form closing if anything is in the way, but that is clear. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with it? Oh, and this just started this past week when we got a lot of snow (the midwest blizzard).

I'm expecting boy/girl twins and I'm struggling on how to decorate the nursery. The room is already painted lilac and the carpet is a few shades darker... it's not in the budget to change that. So this is what I've done to work around that:

The feminine side of the room will have pink floral sheets, a pink bumper, and a beautiful white blanket my mom is crocheting. On the wall will be pink letter hangings. The mobile will be pink and white. The masculine side of the room will have pale blue sheets with a train print on them, a blue striped bumper, and a matching white blanket. On the wall will be blue letter hangings. The mobile will be white and blue. Everything else (lampshades, diaper bins, etc...) will be white.

Is this gender neutral enough?
