something is burning but is similar to the smell when you first turn on the heat for the season. It's been warm out lately so we didn't use the heat for about 2 weeks. Any idea what this smell is?
We have gas heat, forced hot air. We don't smell gas at all, it smells like a burning odor.

My downstairs toilet recently started to not flush well, it bubbles-up when the washing machine drains, and won't flush at all for about an hour after the bathtub upstairs drains.

All other drains in the house seem just fine.

Tried to snake the vent tube on the roof, didn't help.
I pulled the toilet off the floor to check for obstructions, but didn't find any.

While the toilet was off I ran water from the garden hose down the drain and it seemed to flow fine, although some water was standing in the tube about 18 inches down the drain, I assumed that this was normal after running so much water down the drain and it not backing up to the top.

Vent problem?

My mom and dads house has had a pipe break in the ceiling and my dad cut a hole in the roof to see the damage. A guy came over and repaired the pipe, but the ceiling. I was wondering whats the best way to repair it should we go to Home Depot or is there a home-made thing to help with the hole?. If so name the place and the average price for it please.

I have a down feather parka that is white nylon on the outside. It has light red stains all over it, but it is only a little tint. The coat is machine washable, but is the stain going to come out? I've been scrubbing the coat with Shout for a while now and I haven't seen any improvement in it.

We have a 2-bedroom apartment and will be moving less than 10 miles away. the heavy stuff that needs to be moved is a couch, treadmill, queen bed, TV armoir and a 40" glass table top. No major appliances will be going with. we also have a couple chairs that are more awekward than heavy. I have no idea how much it will cost and want an idea of what to expect, I really don't want to do another move myself again this soon (we just moved here a year ago)!

i.e - is it really worth turning all standby lights off to save our
'greenhouse effect' problem, when commercial buildings have
thousand of lights on most of the time ? How many kettle/computer/tv standby lights equate to one building with
all electric lights on many floors ? Why are commercial units
not asked to 'switch off' for at least part of the day or night -
only Jo Public seems to be harassed by Government from
their brightly lit offices.

I am looking to purchase a canister vacuum for our home with mostly hard wood flooring and have gone to several vacuum shops to try out different vacuums and was told today that the Miele brand vacuums may be quiet but are not powerful at all. Miele had been my first choice because they are very quiet but after the sales reps spill today I'm not so sure. Just wanted to see what others thought before I purchase. Any thoughts or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

If you have an open floor plan and want to paint the kitchen and living room different colors, how do you transition from one color to the other? Is there just a line on the wall where one color stops and the other begins?
