My dryer is 8 years old and it suddenly started blowing cold air. Should I call an appliance repair person to possibly fix it or should I get a brand new one? Furthermore, what is causing the cold air?

I just moved into a home, theres like a trimming in my backyard that I can plant around the area. The thing is that nobody has planted in this dirt for more than 10yrs. So it is hard. I want to know "how do I fertilize it and how do I plant". I live in Los Angeles, so the weather is always good and fair. I hear breaking it up mixing some soil in it to make it softer and then adding fish and worms will fertilize the dirt. I hear so many stories. Please give me the step by step.

There is a big rat (foot long) in my backyard. I need help trying to catch it. I have place big glue traps but since therat is huge it got out of it. I hate that rat, it has made a big hole on my dog's food container. It has started eating it. How can I catch this damned rat.I hides under my dog's big doghouse, but when my dog sees it it runs under cars and stays there. You see this is no ordinary rat, it is very smart. It climbs under the car and stays there until the coast it clear. It also goes in the neighbor's garage(not that I am complainig about that). Please tell me how to catch this rat once and for all.

Had lifetime mirror tint applied to the glass windows on my home. Was told the safest thing to clean it with is plain water. Okay, but we are smokers and water doesn't do it. Please, no lectures about quitting smoking (smile)...

It's white, well it was, and it's in that solid 60s plastic material (like acrylic) Has been stained through years of smoking and aging.

Is there any way to get this back to it's original white? I presume it will have to be some sort of bleaching, as this is not surface dirt as far as I can tell.

Also, the pvc phone cable was white and now isn't. Any ideas for that one?

My wife and I are buying an older home that has 32" countertops. We would like to install a dishwasher, but all of the ones that we have seen are 34" tall. Does anyone know of a dishwasher that will fit and/or where to find it?

Our heater blows way to hard upstairs and not enough downstairs. It only has one unit and we have 3200 square feet of home and it is a newer house. It doesnt have any kind of switch for summer or winter or anything like that, I looked everywhere. It blows super hard upstairs, like rediculous hard and hardly anything downstairs. It takes forever for downstairs to get to the right temp and by that time it is unbearably hot upstairs. Would it hurt to close ALL the vents upstairs and let just the few vents downstairs blow? Is it to much restriction or no?

I have noisy roommates who wake me up 7-8am every morning. How do I soundproof my room? My furniture is already moved in, so installing a layer on the walls is not an option. I guess that leaves the door frame -- what's the best way to soundproof the door?

(I try wearing earplugs, but sometimes they fall out, so I'd like to soundproof as well.)

Thanks in advance!

I'm installing red oak select hardwood flooring in my kitchen, to continue the flooring from my hallway and dining room. One company recommends, for my regien, 0.4mm spacing per strip using "green" spacers, but would it be okay to just eyeball the strips before nailing them down, just like the pros? Or would it be better to just use the spacers?

We have a wood stove and it is our only source of heat. I am wondering if it is my imagination or what: It seems that the wood in our stove burns faster when the weather is cold. At night on a day that is not below freezing the wood stove packed and in the am we still have wood. When it is in the 30s it seems like when we pack the stove tight, there is none in the am. I am just wondering about this. Anyone have an idea or is it true that it is burning faster on cold nights and days.

Doing some research for my mother in law. She wants to know if these lights need to shine directly on a person? Do they come in three way bulbs? and how many are needed for an average 9x12 room. I have tried to poke around but I am finding sales not facts. Thanks.

cold here too - trying to figure out how to save a tree that's now grown to be above my top deck. It provides some shade and privacy. It's almost bent in half because of the ice . I tried to throw cool water on it to get some of the ice off but can't reach the limb. I went out to try and prop it up but broke off a small limb and decided to stop. HELP I love this tree.

We have an old home (1940) that has the original plaster walls. We would like to hang picture frames and some small shelves that would hold little nick-knacks, a model sailboat, etc. I have been reluctant to do it up to this point because I do not want to crack the plaster, damage the walls, be left with a ever-growning crack and a shelf or frame that is not securely in the wall. Any suggestions from others who have dealt with similar situations?
THANKS!
