I have about a 1/8th coating of ice on my Citrus Tree should I knock it off or should I leave it be? It is not frost but a coating of ice. Any advice would be appreciated.

Other answerers are partly right. It may be too late. And it is snow that is a good insulator, not ice. FreezING ice is 32 degrees, and will protect the tree. FroZEN ice is whatever temperature the air has fallen to, and will not deter any damage, maybe will make it even worse. I don't know your current temps, but it may help to run the sprinkler on it, keeping it running and in the process of freezING until temps rise above the 30's. I wish you success.

Like the opposite solutions, it relies on the temperature that it will get all the way down to to your storage. I've certainly stored more than a few varieties of citrus in unheated locations of my condo with out challenge, even though the temp in no way dropped to underneath 30 or so in the ones locations. Do you open the storage most of the time? Do you hold a auto in there too? You can support hold the storage / crops slightly hotter by means of placing a few incandescent lighting fixtures close the bushes. Clamp on reflector lighting paintings nice. I went one step extra and further a greenhouse thermostat which activates an AC load (like lamps) whilst the temp will get all the way down to some thing the thermostat has been set at. This prevents losing electrical energy. I have 2 mandarin orange bushes planted external within the flooring right here within the North Georgia mountains. They survived in a plastic protected picket transitority greenhouse with lamps and a thermostat all iciness without a challenge, lowest external temp was once 10 levels.

Ice is a good insulator from the freezing cold, but be careful, the ice needs to stay there while it is freezing. During bloom in freezing conditions, I know apple growers that will turn the overhead sprinklers, when ice forms on the buds it is good insulation.
