To buy something you need to pay for it.

To get something free you pay nothing for it.

Your question is faulty

Depends on what kind of samples you want. If you are looking for paint samples, sure, they have them in swatches. And they are free. If you want floornig samples, sorry charlie, but no dice. Generally the flooring samples cost something, but usually like 1$ to 4$ depending on what you are wanting.... Just go there and see what they have that you want, and get the samples you need.

Well, you actually wouldn't be "buying" anything that is free. What kind of samples are you talking about? From my experience, the staff will typically help you out as much as they are allowed, which is quite a bit. It never hurts to ask!

If you are 'buying' then they are not free, are they? Home depot has many samples of their products that you can have to take home [paint, carpet squares etc...] and you can buy just one of an item like cabinet hardware or ceramic tile and then return it in undamaged condition if you don't like it once you get it home.
