We bought this house 9 years ago and at the time, we thought the pine floors looked just great but as time went by, the gaps between the boards kept getting wider and wider. So now, we don't think it looks so good anymore. We were told sanding and re finishing would not take care of the gaps, in some places, the spaces between boards is nearly 1/4 inch. Any ideas?

I used a ton of candles over the holidays. I just noticed a large spot on my new carpet is covered with harden candle wax that dripped down from the fireplace mantle. Can anyone suggest a safe way to remove the wax without damaging the carpet?

When I wash my clothes they don't feel so soft as before. Is there a way to make them softer, especially flannel and baby clothes? Should I wash with cold water, or delicate cycle, or use a special soap or product? I have a very good washer (Bosch front loader).

We recently bought a house which is over 100 years old, and I'm not an expert in the field but an old tenant told us that the pipes under the house have basically corraded and don't exist anymore. If you stick a pole down the drain in the basement, you get dirt and mud and sometimes unusual objects come up through the drain, for example a diaper has been found and even a t-shirt. My question basically is what are options for fixing such a problem? Thanks!

I have huge power bills in the winter due to gas consumption and have recently added a gas fireplace to our house. I was wondering if it will help if I turn our furnace down and use it for a heat source alot of the time. I am tired of paying so much and am hoping for some details on gas consumption of fireplaces.

This is the first time I have owned a home, and the first time i've had city water. It has stained my laundry with rusty orange stains and causes rusty stains on my shower walls and tub floor, a week after cleaning the tub.

Unfortunately I forgot how to make these gorgeous bird houses with stones. I don't remember how to produce that stuff that keeps the stones together, otherwise I'd like to make my mum, my m8, and maybe another friend a proper birds house, something that lasts for ages and ages (maybe another one for my granny's garden tree, she's got 2trees, and only 1 birdshouse, that still remains from school time). Because our wooden ones get really worn every year and become leaky, wood sucks too much water and sometimes grows living cultures other than our lovely birds inside, caused by all the rain we get in GB. And that's why we want the proper ones, so we don't have to replace them all the time, and they are much warmer, so more cozy for our robins.... IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP AND PROVIDE US WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE STUFF BETWEEN THE STONES, PLEASE? It would really be appreciated very much indeed. By the way, this would also enable me to pass the skills on to my daughters, so they do creative things later in their lives, rather than drugs and crime or other stupid things, that I don't wish them to. I love them lots and lots!
