Unfortunately I forgot how to make these gorgeous bird houses with stones. I don't remember how to produce that stuff that keeps the stones together, otherwise I'd like to make my mum, my m8, and maybe another friend a proper birds house, something that lasts for ages and ages (maybe another one for my granny's garden tree, she's got 2trees, and only 1 birdshouse, that still remains from school time). Because our wooden ones get really worn every year and become leaky, wood sucks too much water and sometimes grows living cultures other than our lovely birds inside, caused by all the rain we get in GB. And that's why we want the proper ones, so we don't have to replace them all the time, and they are much warmer, so more cozy for our robins.... IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP AND PROVIDE US WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE STUFF BETWEEN THE STONES, PLEASE? It would really be appreciated very much indeed. By the way, this would also enable me to pass the skills on to my daughters, so they do creative things later in their lives, rather than drugs and crime or other stupid things, that I don't wish them to. I love them lots and lots!

it is called mortar, and there are a few varieties. you probably want brick type mortar. any home center should have bags of it you just add water to. you want a consistency of wet clay, more or less.

Tip1: soak the stones you intend to use in water before you use them, it helps the mortar dry more evenly, and not have all the water sucked out by the stones too fast, thereby making it stronger in the long run.

Tip2: once you have the thing built, mix some of the mortar mix just a little thinner, the consistency of cake frosting. use a disposable cake decorating bag and tip to fill in where you missed. smooth out with something, like the back of a spoon, or you finger.

Can't you find out what kind of sod of whatever will permanently cling to stones? Seems like any stone place could tell you what you could use to hook the stones together. They make stone houses. You just want to make a little house.
You should be able to find out on the Internet by looking stone quarries or stone houses and find out what they use. You just don't need a huge quantity.

Are you talking about grout? I have used it for making items with broken pieces of ceramic tile. Go to the hardware store, pick out the color grout to coordinate with the stones and follow the instructions.
