When did it become popular for home owners to carpet over tile and wood flooring?

In the early part of the 1900, it started for luxury homes that could afford it. When the price of carpet dropped in the 1950 and 1960s most homes went for the luxury of soft carpet. It was better than waxing the hardwood floors.

IN THE 40'S & 50'S IF YOU HAD CARPET, YOU WERE POOPING IN HIGH COTTON! THE 100% WOOL CARPETS YOU BOUGHT BACK THEN LASTED 40 YEARS... I'D SAY IN THE LATE 70'S & 80'S THE PEOPLE REALIZED THE VALUE OF WOOD!
