I used a ton of candles over the holidays. I just noticed a large spot on my new carpet is covered with harden candle wax that dripped down from the fireplace mantle. Can anyone suggest a safe way to remove the wax without damaging the carpet?

Hi
There is two ways to remove wax from carpet.

1/ Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can .Use a dry clean white terrycloth place it over the wax spot then heat it with a iron on low setting because most homes have polyester carpet, and if the iron gets too hot, it'll melt the carpet. Keep checking the spot every ten seconds or so, moving the terrycloth so that a clean spot is on the carpet.

2/ Which is the better way. Use the edge of a butter knife to carefully scrape off or lift up as much solid wax as you can Heat up a full kettle of water and pour it slowly on the carpet at the same time with a wet vac vacuum up the water. Keep on doing this until the wax is removed.

I work at a Catholic Church and we have this problem all the time. Get an old terry cloth towel. Put the towel over the wax . Heat up your iron and put it down on the towel. The wax will be drawn up into the towel. This also works with paper towels, but the terry cloth is the best.

Ah, I saw this on Rachael Ray. Get your clothes iron and put it on a low setting, put a brown paper bag over the wax, iron over the bag, and move the bag around until the wax comes up. Make sure you wipe any residue off the iron with a paper towel while it's still warn so you don't wreck your clothes.

Get a towel and an iron. Place the towel over the carpet and iron over the top. The heat will melt the wax, and the towel will soak up the liquid. It works! My friend in high school spilled wax all over her mom's new carpet and got it clenaed up before her mom got home. :-)

I have heard that you can put wax paper down and iron it and it will lift the wax up. I have not tried this but other people have told me it works.
