If the mold has grown into the tiny crevasses of the wood, it may not ever come out entirely. Leaving bleach on the wood will ruin its finish.

You could try putting the desk in hot, bright sunshine for a few days. There are also companies that specialize in removing mold, smoke and fumes from furniture after disasters, using ozone. It's not something to try at home, though.

What about some paint remover? You put it on and let it set awhile and scrap it off with a scraper.
