if properly installed, and in proper working order, i see no need to turn it off. trouble arises when something is out of kilter. course , if you are going to be gone all day, you might set it at a lower level so you are not wastig fuel. by the same token, if you have back up heat to keep the pipes from freezing and such, and dont mind coming home to a cool house, shut it down. kind of a personal choice, and a financial one. So long as things are functioning as designed.

Um...where in the world do you live that you use a corn stove?

I have never heard of such a thing...at least past 1900 or so.
