It depends on if you want to buy one or just rent one. Most grocery stores and do-it-yourself home stores rent them.

I bought a Bissel (sp?)-it works great, and I can get it out of the closet for anytime there is a need, without having to go to the store to pick one up-

I like Hoover products. They have a steam cleaner that heats the water as you use the shampooer. The water tank is a little tricky to insert and I've wrecked a couple because I was too rough while inserting it. They cost over $200. I think renting a machine is a great idea. I haven't had luck with some of the other brands, but like I said, I'm hard on things. Good luck. If the carpet is new, why do you want to shampoo it unless you have stains and "accidents". Just get a real good vacuum and vacuum often.

If you want one of the best go online and look for rug doctors, they sell refurbished ones and you can save allot on them but they are expensive.
