First things first. For the initial cleaning there's nothing like good ol' elbow grease. Get some murphy's oil soap and a good stiff scrub brush with long bristles (so you can get into the corners) and scrub the heck out of it. After that it's just a matter of maintainence. Mild soap and hot water then lemon oil once a month.

I would dust it a couple, three times with a Swiffer duster. Then I'd go out and buy the Orange Glo Hardwood care system. It comes in a box which contains a mop, microfiber pads, a hardwood cleaner and refinisher. You could also buy a Hoover Floor Mate and use the Old English Hardwood Floor cleaning concentrate, or you could buy a Swiffer mop and the cleaner that is suitable for hardwood floors. The Swiffer mop and Orange Glo Hardwood care system cost about $25-$30 and the Hoover Floor Mate costs $169, but you can use it over and over. If the floors are damaged, I'd get them refinished. Good luck.

there is floor cleaners similar to pledge that is designed to clean wood floors. You'll also want to run a dry mop over it now and then to pick up any dust that's colllected.
