We have had the gas company here and he says that the fireplace is just very efficeint and that is why it burns blue. I like the fact it pumps out lots of heat but it looks horrible and during the day you can't even see the flames! Not very romantic or relaxing. Just wondering if there is a way to make it burn less efficient or create more orange flame. Thanks....

I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find the kind I'm looking for. They're either too short or too tall. Due to the size of this room I'm looking for a prelit Christmas tree that's 5.5' - 6' tall with either multi-colored or clear lights. What online store or retail chain can I find a tree that's close to this? Thank you.

I live in Northern Canada (mostly due to work reasons) and I have an apartment with a balcony. Sadly, it seems no one around here keeps plants outside. I like to have some green in my balcony, but with wind temperatures dropping to -60 F every day, all plants I've tried to grow out there just freeze and die.

Does anyone have a recommendation on what sort of plants are hardy enough to resist weather this cold? They must be rather small, so I can keep them in my pots.

It's getting too high. I know I'm only 13 to worry about it but whatever (^_^). Is there anyway to get it lower?

I know saving electricity and water is the best bet but we just use too much everyday. It's because my parents own and manage a grocery store where they run loads and loads of elctricty everyday and we use water a lot.

Any suggestions please? Only serious answers.....PLEASE

My Maytag washing machine has minor leakage from the gap between th hinged top and the side panels of the washing machine. I have removed the front panel and hinged the top open. I have examined the water fill hose that fills the tub, but I can't tell if the hose has a crack in it or not. How can I tell where the leak is coming from? How easy is it to replace this hose? Thanks for the help!

We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. recently we had in our suburb a home invasion with a machete and sawn off shotgun. they havent caught the people. We have an alarm system but cant use it because of the cats. I get a bit scared sometimes because I feel we don't have enough security if someone came with a gun. We are thinking of installing a sensor light but are there any other suggestions to make your home safer?

I bought some new wall lamps that are wired for a plug but I'd like to have them hard-wired to a switch. It seems like you could just cut the cord and splice the wires to a new hard wire, right?

I have bought a new couch and want to get rid of my old blue leather couch. It only has a few minor rips in it but the thrift stores won't take it. I don't mind giving it away free, but that would mean strangers coming into my house which I"m not comfortable with. I live in San Diego. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it? Have you heard of some trash pickup service that will pick it up for a fee?

I'm originally from arizona so I am kind of lost. I'm in oklahoma now and we are supposed to get an ice storm starting tomorrow. I own my own home so I have to take care of making sure things are done. What do I need to know so I don't ruin pipes or anything with this storm coming through. Any ideas on any aspect of this would be greatly appreciated as I'm sure I've forgotten something.
thank you
