Now there's a thought! In the past I used sintered (powdered) metals mixed with resins for various effects, Brass was the gold, aluminium for the silver. Just possible. if they were mixed with pva instead of resin? Look up "trylon", for materials, in Northants.

Do you mean polyester filler? This is what Bondo and Minwax High Performance Wood Filler are, and others sell a similar thing. Forget about the products designed to fill nail holes and minor defects -- they won't hold up to the impact and would be difficult to get thick without cracking and shrinking. Another option is epoxy filler such as Quik-wood. These are easily shaped with a little putty knife and soapy water while still in the plastic stage. A few screws or holes drilled in your wood will hold them in place well. They set up in 5- and 30-minute versions and are easily cut with a sharp edge, filed, or sanded. If "far too much" is a quarter inch or more, I'd suggest ripping a piece of wood and gluing and screwing it to the bottom of your door. Forget trying to get it to match, just paint it satin black or white and it will look like weather stripping.

Get powdered natural wood filler at any hardware store or paint store. You can then mix it with any paint to get the right match.
Make sure the label reads for mixing with water based paint. I
use it for repairing furniture.

There were so many woodworking plans with this collection and you will not believe this but there are over thousands plans in the one package deal. Go here https://tr.im/N9D43
This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.
