yea, the only problem is that they cost a fortune. Simply put, they give stuff in the air a negative charge so that it will attract to the positively-charged metal bars. The air is clean and once you clean the bars you can give it another go.
I think Sharper Image makes a good one. Beware, they cost a lot of money

I bought my sister an Ionic Breeze ( small one 89.00 at the time ) for christmas last year cause her kids always complained about the smell of smoke in the house since she and her husband smoke. Well after 1 day of it running my nephews were the 1st to ask if she stopped smoking lol. so yes they do work. At least I know the one i got does cause my nephews have a keen nose for smoke lol, and they didnt smell it ne more.

Also they depend on the size of the room you plan on using it in. some only work on certain size rooms. Larger rooms like living rooms would req a larger one. The size I got my sister would keep a small room like bedroom or kitchen clean. I wouldnt recomend the ones that req water. they can get messy and req some maintenance. The one i got only needed a wipe of a damp wash cloth to clean the filter out and didnt req water to run.

Btw, I purchased mine at JC Penny, it was on sale for x-mas .. marked down from 119 to 89. So the prices can be different also depending on where in the world you are:)

A good resource is Consumer Reports, We looked into one also and bought a Friedrick. It's a little pricey $500 but it's worth every penny. Theres no filters to replace just an occasional vacuuming of the filters and you can place the ionizing unit in your dishwasher. Good Luck!

My aunt and uncle have the ionic upright ones (tall and thin), and their dusty, nasty-smelling house turned into a non-dusty, clean-smelling house all of a sudden! I was amazed. Plus those things are silent, and I mean SILENT!! Pretty great. They look like the ones from the Sharper Image.
