Pain & Pain Management - December 2007

Okay, so I broke my pelvis about 4 weeks ago in an accident,
and at first i didn't know (maybe because of the painkillers) but
now I have both chronic and acute pain in my foot (only left foot)
It's the typical burning feeling, pins and needles pain, acute pain
occurs when i change position(i.e get up, sit up, etc etc)
despite my left leg being colder than my right leg by a noticeable amount, 2 doctors i've visited ruled it out as pinched nerve as there are nerves running to the foot where my pelvis fracture is.

The question now is, how should i treat this? ice my back by pelvis area? or my foot area? i heard some people say use warm water?

thanks a lot in advance

I was walking to school about a year ago and was hit by a car. I hit the windshield and was thrown off the car. The girl went to my school and asked if i was okay but then when i turned around she was gone. I went into school and told the nurse I had got hit by a car and that I was in a lot of pain. I was sent to the hospital and had suffered many bruises, a concussion, and spinal and knee injuries. My knees and legs ache all the time and I have muscle spasms in my back that hurt so escruciating that i cannot move nor function in many ways. My school eventually found the girl on cameras and was charged. Her insurance is trying to settle for 7 thousand dollars. Is this reasonable? I need to hurry up and settle but I don't think this is a fair amount with the amount of pain I am still in. Can I request more? Will i get it? and what is a reasonable amount?

I have been having throbbing bone pain around my hip/femur and knee bones. It has gradually gotton worse over time.

Sometimes it hurts to exercise/ but not often. The pain is wayyy worse at night.
I also sometimes get the pains in my other leg.

The other day my dad mentioned that he thought the doctor said I had a possibility of having displaced hips - what does that mean??

Do my symptoms sound like Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis ?
Or something else?

Thanks

I had a total hip replacement in 2005. I now find I am having pain like the pain before my hip replacement. I am 5ft 7in. I weigh 124 pounds. The pain I have is located in my groin area and all the way around my hip. It then shoots into my upper thigh area. I limp when I walk because weight hurts on that side. I also cannot get moving when I first go to get up. I have to allow it time to warm up. When I lay down it is hard to get into a position that is comfortable.
My doctor has not seen me, but over the phone thinks it could be lower back pain. I had an MRI six months ago due to unusual swelling in the lower part of the same leg as the hip replacement. The MRI showed nothing was wrong with my back. Could this be arthritis? Many times to help solve the problem people have hip replacements. That is why I wanted to know if you can get arthritis if you have a total hip replacement.

Thank you,
Scarlett O

How did you injure your back?

5 years ago, when I was still very uneducated, I chose to jump off a swing. I landed on the side of my left foot and fell. It was pure agony and I couldn't walk for weeks. I refused to go to the doctor.(very unwise) It hurt for 2 years, and then on and off. Recently it was throbbing, but not a sharp kind, but a compression kind of pain. I don't know what triggered it. In the past 2 years I have also had aquard knee problems also on my left knee. Could these be related? The doctor was stumped and after an MRI said I had bad bruising. Can I do anything for the ankle?

i went to the e.r. for some chest pains the other day and they diagnosed me with costochondritis (thank God not my heart LOL). in case you don't know, costo is inflammation in the ribs where they attach to the breastbone or sternum. they gave me some meds to help with pain and they also told me i could use a heating pad to help as well. i am wondering how a heating pad could help inflammation?? isn't that heat already?
