How did you injure your back?

Me? I have chronic low back issues. It started about 20 years ago when I was pulling on a homecare patient. I went one way and he went the other. Poof. There went by back.

So what happened to you?

I was born with the most messed up back and neck in the world. My neck is fused into three lump vertebrea (compared to the usual seven) I have six partial vertebrea in my uper back, i have a bone spur in my lower back, seven other fused vertebrea , two fused ribs and one missing rib, I have siatica down my right leg and nerve trama in my left arm, I have mild scoliosis, and I am four ten because my back refused to grow after i turned ten. It's called Clypo-Phial and is usually accompanied by kidney problems and learning dissabilities, I dodged those bullets. One in 40,000 people get it. No matter, it's not fun. But I have defied the odds. I can function almost completely normally except for limited mobility and pain. I have to go to physical therapy twice a week to stay stable. I also ride horses to keep up my core strength. Plus horses are awsome. I suggest anyone with back problems get into riding. I am sixteen years old and have a long life of dissablilty in front of me. Ok that sounded really whiny, but in truth, I am glad I got off so easy. Do I win the ten points? I really want something for my complaining besides a dissability sticker on my car...

If the pain meds aren't working anymore, I strongy suggest trying some alternative medicine instead - some of which is covered by insurance. A lot of people with chronic pain have success with accupuncture - I have several personal friends who only receive relief from this treatment, and not from the meds. You could also try massage or accupressure, but make sure you speak with your doctor to find out if these might exacerbate your current issue, rather than make it better. You could also try visiting a Chinese Herbal Shop - they're amazing! I had one guy diagnose my lactose intolerance just by looking at my mouth - and I was in a shop in Scotland where I'd never been before! Try also researching special diets or clinical trials that might give you stronger meds. I'm so sorry you're going through this - I can't even imagine what it's like not being able to play with your daughter.

I succumbed to Psoriasis skin condition at 16 and the first swollen joint at 21. I was 29 before I was told I had Arthritis. At 34 I was legless in Hospital, due to a 'Arthritis Flare' which turned out to be severe lower back spasm, left unnoticed for five months. That spasm gave me Scoliosis of the lumbar spine. Back pain was persistent. Then three years ago I had severe acute bouts of lower right abdominal pain, that literally doubled me up for 30 minutes. It took me to ER and after a barrage of tests the reason was 'unknown'. However they wanted to explore, surgically. I then used the Internet, asked my GP for a MRI, where they located a disc bulge. When it bulges, it hit the nerve root to my legs. They then started Fentanyl pain patches and this year, bang, seems the disc has now prolapsed, but no surgery due to the scoliosis and arthritis. Therefore at 49, I have been measured up for an electric wheelchair and spent three hours getting used to it. I am hoping I will never need it, but from what I have read, now that one disc has gone, the others are under extra strain.
All this because, well because one Doctor got it all very wrong, jump to a assumption, Psoriasis, Arthritis, Patient is flaring and never gave me a physical examination. It was the Physiotherapist who examined my back and noted the spasm, then put me on a TENs machine, released the spasm and I got both legs back! Good Luck

I was in a car accident with a drunk driver 10 years ago. Fracture my back and neck but it took doctors 3 years to figure out what to do about it.
So after 2 operations, 2 plates, 4 rods, and various screws they put me back together again.
Had to retire/disabled at 43 but life isn't too bad except for having to be on pain meds everyday for the rest of my life.

By the way, the drunk driver got out of jail the next day and headed straight south across the border back home in Baja, Mexico.

I'm not sure...it started gradually and was just a mere annoyance....now it is so bad i don't wanna get outta bed half the time. Chronic pain is awful and most people don't understand it and think that we are exagerating. I wish people could understand. I hope you find relief and good luck

Yes, It's been getting worse for the last 8 years now. Now if I stand too long or sit in one position too long or lay down too long or do the dishes by hand it's enough to cause enough pain to make me sick.

Nothing happened to me, I just have big boobs. I'm saving for a breast reduction. [Good bras are expensive] :)
