I have 3 torn ligaments in my left ankle after coming down on the ankle while standing on a couch cushion. I went to an ORTHO yesterday and he told me that it was a typical ankle sprain and to do physical therapy for 1 month, 2 times a week. One of the ligaments is a complete rupture and 3 others are partial tears. I just dont see how this can be a typical sprain when there is a complete tear. I am going to get a 2nd opinion, I just wanted to post here and to see if i am on the right track with the physical therapy not seeming to be enough. i have done research online to see what the course of action should be, and with the severity of mine it says that surgery is reccomended or a walking cast. Has anyone had this happen? If so what was the course of action for you?

My father is in a nursing home because he broke his leg. He has 100 days of therapy. He had use about 60 days when the nursing home was pushing him in a wheelchair without his foot elevated and pulled it under the chair and loosened the screws in the plate where he just broke his leg and broke it again below the original break. He had to have another surgery. He now has about 4 wks of therapy left and the dr won't let him back on his leg for at least 7-8 wks. The nursing home says we have to pay, or get Medicaid to help or we can take him home. That's just wrong. They broke the leg. I am just starting chemo therapy and this has me so stressed out. We will be contacting a lawyer, but does anyone know what we can legally sue for? The nursing home stay? Therapy? Anything for all the stress they're creating?

I have sprained my ankle 3 times before. Once when i was younger when i was running about, a 2nd time was when i was jumping a reasonable distance off about a metre high step, and the recent time was when i fell on my foot at an ankle when i was on my trampoline.

Each time has prevented me from being able to walk for a couple of weeks and has put me in lots of pain and even when i can walk, it takes months to heal properly.

Recently, i have mildly twisted my ankle which involves it swelling up, but i am still able to walk, twice, in the same month when i was hill walking.

Is somthing wrong with my ankle? I am only 15!

About a year ago I jammed my finger while playing basketball. I had done this before so I figured some R&R and icing it would make it get better in a week or so. Well it didn't and now I am stuck with a fat ring finger knuckle and a wedding in two weeks. Is there anything that can be done to fix a finger in this condition? Its not swelling anymore, its just permanantly fat in the knuckle, the rest of the finger is normal sized. On top of that, there is still some VERY slight pain on the lower right side of the knuckle if I push on it.

What can be done? What did I do to it? How can I fix it??

Since carpal tunnel is something you get from typing all the time (well, for me at least) is it consider a work related injury? My hands and arms ache all the time and even keep me awake at night. Any thoughts?

He stubbed his little toe really hard yesterday morning - it sounded like a gunshot when it happened. He wouldn't stay off of it, and today it is black and blue and very painful. He says he feels like the bone on the side of his foot may be sprained or broken, but like a man, he won't go to the doctor! He wants to stay off of it (now) and perhaps tape it up. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Yesterday at the beach i got wacked pretty hard on the right side of my head by a body boarder. Luckily my boyfriend was their cause i blacked out for like 10 or 15 seconds. I had a really bad head ache yesterday and my dad thought that maybe i had a concussion. I have a head ache again today. could it just be a bruise or should i get it checked out?

I had bronchitis a few years ago and due to the incessant coughing, my lower ribs (the ones on the side only connected to the ribs above them by cartilage, not to the breastbone) were separated. Since then they've healed abnormally; one of the lower ones slipped behind an upper one and healed there, so the tip of the upper one protrudes slightly. This has happened on both sides.

Does anyone know if this can be corrected in any way? It doesnt interfere with my lifestyle or anything, and it only starts hurting again when I catch a bug that makes me cough alot (or when I run long distances), but many people say theres nothing I can do about it. Are they right?

Professional/educated opinions appreciated.

I was at a creek today, and when walking across a stone bridge i scraped the bottom of my food on a rusted bolt. Water was running over the bridge at the time, and the cut is now sore and beginning to redden. I have cleaned it twice since and applied Neosporin. My concern lies in tetanus, or am I just paranoid?

I strained it yesterday evening. It's morning now. I've taken ibruprofen for it already. I took a very warm shower after this happened. What else can be done? Just rest? No one here to massage it for me. My husband left for the week.

For about the past year or so this has been occurring but the past 3 days its almost every 5 minutes. Right above the waistline in my left abdominal area (around where your forearm hangs in a standing position) Its very hard to describe but it feels like there is gas and it starts to make very quiet popping noises and it feels like someone is thumping me there from the inside. Its not painful at all but VERY annoying as sometimes its very audible. The only way I can explain what its like is that its like a mini whoopee cusion in my left abdominal area that someone sits on at random times. HELP.... should I be worried that its happening more often?

I am having arthroscopic knee surgery. According to the MRI, I have a "grade 3 rupture" in the inner side meniscus. Is it possible to go home the same day, or is it necessary to spend a day or two in the hospital? I really don't want to spend even one night in the hospital. I would feel much, much better at home.

If the hospital stay is for legal reasons (such as lawsuit if patient gets worse or dies of complications), can I sign a waiver to let me leave the hospital?

My choice of anesthesia is general (gas) or spinal injection to numb the leg. I am opting for the injection because general anesthesia makes me uncontrollably nervous afterwards, and it's torture just sitting still.

How long after surgery are you typically allowed to start walking? How much pain should I expect afterwards? Any recommendations?
