I was at a creek today, and when walking across a stone bridge i scraped the bottom of my food on a rusted bolt. Water was running over the bridge at the time, and the cut is now sore and beginning to redden. I have cleaned it twice since and applied Neosporin. My concern lies in tetanus, or am I just paranoid?

It doesn't have to be rusty for tetanus. Any break in the skin can cause tetanus. Tetanus live on your skin not the bolt. Redness ans irritation are normal signs of healing. When did you get a shot for tetanus last. We recommend every 5 years. If it is up to date you are good. If not get to your doctor and get the shot. Just keep the wound clean and dry.

don't take a chance and see a doctor for a tetanus shot. it's a routine thing that is not worth risking. i'm basing this on the fact the bolt was rusted: that can be very dangerous!

Yes you need to get a tetanus shot. Infact, they are needed every 2 years (not 10 like some like to believe).

Keep the area clean and if you notice red streaks around the site, severe redness/swelling/odd sensations or you get a fever get in to see your doc that day.

Either way, make an appointment to get in to see your doc.

If your last tetanus shot was more than 5 years ago, then you need to go get a tetanus shot.

You need a tetanus shot unless you have had one in the last 10 years.
Think about how "clean" the creek was.
Get a tetanus shot.

Yes, if your tetanus is not up to date you should definitely get this checked out especially if it is already reddening. It could cause cellulitis (inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue), which is a very serious condition. Also considering the pain, I would get it checked out......
GOOD LUCK!!!
