Injuries - March 2007

I hit my head against the sharp corner end of a shower that was hanging over the edge of a trailer. Basically I have a small chunk of skin that was taken out just above the eye. I've already gone to the doc, but they just put a small butterfly stitch over it that did nothing other than preventing it from scabbing over. I think they just put it over the wound itself. Now its still basically fresh, should I go back and have them stich it up right, or wait till the whole thing scabs over this weekend (again its like a half a centimeter in diameter, and there is no skin, just red mucsle. at least I think its muscle since the area is red, but it is also very shallow, only a couple mm deep). I got it last teusday, and its no longer bleeding, but still looks like it should be patched up.

I do not want surgery. I have very little pain in the knee and very little to no instability when i walk. sometimes i can feel some movement when i twist. The dr. said the mri may have looked worse than they are. because of my range of motion and lack of pain and little instability. also Im not very active nor take part in sports just work and play around the house. Im 36 yrs w/m

this morning i was running late & wasnt paying attention & i fell down the stairs & imediatly the pain was horible, so bad that i was shaking.But after a few minutes it didnt hurt anymore. I got the kids to scholl on time (barely) A couple of hours later it started hurting a little & now has gotten to the point that i cant walk & it hurts very bad nomatter what. it hurts on the arch & now pretty much everywhere. I have no insurance so i dont want to go to E.R. unless there is really something wrong..if it is just a sprain i can treat at home.

help...

I recently started running and after my second run, my foot started hurting for seemingly no reason. The pain got worse after a couple of days and I tried ice and elevation. It is slightly swelled up on the outside of my ankle right below the joint. The part that hurts is on the outside of my foot in line with my pinky and "ring" toe. It only hurts when I walk or point my foot. Also, sometimes when I point or flex my foot I feel something moving or pulling on the bottom of my foot. That just feels really weird, it doesn't hurt.

I have stopped running and have used the RICE method for about a week. Shortly after I take the ice off the swelling appears again. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong with my foot? Is it important I see a doctor soon or should I just continue with RICE for another week and see if it goes away?

I bent my toe back, it's a little swollen now, not it much pain uless i walk on it, it's not excrusiating uless i bend it towards the bottom of my foot. Is it a sprain or did I just pull it? what should i do to stop the pain? I dont think i should go to the doctor, not much they could do right?

Two days ago I had a persistant verruca dug out by my doctor, unfortunately its in an awkward place on my foot so I am finding i'm unable to walk on that foot,and it still bleeds now and again which I presume is normal. I redressed the wound yesterday with a gauze dressing not a plaster and it looks clean, has anyone else had a severe verruca removed in this way, if so, how long approximately did it take to heal (or at least to the stage where you could walk) Its very tricky having a bath(any tips greatly received) i'm using some wood to rest it on at the moment while I have a wash. I'm hopping around on one leg and its getting very tiring, I'm also not sure if i'm supposed to redress it every day or every other day (to avoid making my senstive skin surrounding it sore) My doctor and the nurses didn't tell me what to expect etc but to be fair they were more concerned about me getting home before the general anesthetic wore off, any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Quick question, on my right hand in betweenthe pinky and my ring finger, it is all swollen and has been hurting. I think I may have broken a blood vessel but the color really hasnt changed. If you were to break a blood vessel there, is there anything you can do, or should one just go to the dr?

About a month ago I got hit in the chin with a basket ball, hard. It poped the right side of my jaw out of place. It came right back,, but of course it hurt. Before this, sometimes my jaw would grind agianst the bone when I chewed. If I chew gum for more than about ten minutes, my jaw starts to grind and pop, so I've stoped chewing gum. My doctor said that the basket ball to the face probably made it worse and that it'd heal on it's own in about a week or two, but hear I am opening and closing my mouth and very gently at that, and still hearing a little grinding sound.

When I was five I picked up a bungee cord with the metal hook at the end, and hooked it on a tree. I pulled back as hard as I could and obvioulsy didn't think anything bad would happen. The cord snapped off and went into my lip. I had 5 stitches and plastic surgery. But now I have a cool scar. What's yours?

I have been sick lately and I have been feeling so much pain in my stomache and back, but I also just had the IUD inserted four days ago, so I assumed the pain was due to the IUD settling in or something. But after a day of no pain at all, today the pain is back and now I have bloody stool. And it is very black. Could this be food poisoning or something? I can't imagine what I couldn've eaten to cause that though. Has this ever happened to you before? What was it?

I searched around on here for answers but none of them seemed too helpful. Of course the question is about my knee. Umm..I'd say almost 6 years ago I was at a basketball camp and I was practicing my defense. I was just there to learn, so I wasn't a really great player. Anyways...I stepped out on my right knee and I felt it pop out of place. I couldn't stand on it and I had to have help sitting down. My knee turned red and was really swollen. I went home and by the end of the day the swelling was gone. My mom assumed everything was fine so I never went to the doctor. Since then whenever I lean to long on my right knee it will pop out of place, towards my other knee. But it will only hurt for 15-20 minutes and then I can walk on it. It has also given me a sort of limp when it does that, even after it stops hurting. I thought it might have been my weight(working out now to lose it) putting too much pressure on my knee. It popped again a few weeks ago and it sounded like something scraped.

Ok, so, like 6 months ago, my leg got sliced open by a huge peice of glass. It broke apart and their are still some peices in there. It was fine up until I started up soccer and swimming and stuff agian. I'm not sure what to do, but I for sure can't stop playing sports!

I have torn both of my ACLs (knees), one in 2003 and the other in 2004. I have had the reconstruction surgery but I don't want to put too much strain on my knees. Is jogging a good idea or should I do a less stressful excersize for my knees?

Ok, I twisted my knee more than 3 weeks ago skiing. It was really sore the first week. I didn't have any problem putting my weight on it. It was just sore when I would bend my knee. It seems fine now, but sometimes my knee is still a little sore. Like when I'm sitting at a restaurant, I have a habit of bending my knees with my feet under my seat. After sitting like this for a while, when I try to stand up, my knee is stiff and sore until I walk it off.

Do you think it would be a problem if I started light running? Anyone have a similar experience?

My 1 year old son just got stitches across his forehead. The stitches are supposed to disolve and there is a sort of tape on there that is supposed to fall off by itself. How do I take care of the area? And is it ok to give him some Motrin in the morning? How do I keep him from messing with it? Will there be a scar? ( the gash was so deep I could see his skull.)

I cliped my toenail too short. 4 months ago the doctor saaid it will be fine... Its swollen, red, bleeds,,and pusses and kills allof the skin to the left tside ot it

Its my right foot, big toe. I really dont want to lose it. It kills when I puut prusser on it. I dont want it lanced

yesterday as I was clibing into a van, I lost my grip and balance and fell back on my butt onto the concrete and jammed my back. I was rushed to the hospital to have it checked and nothing was broken and my tailbone area hurts whether I'm up or down so the pain seems neverending.

what sucks about it is that I was on my way to San Francisco when this happened and the whole trip was ruined on my part.

My father was hit by a car walking in the cross walk last weds 3/7 he has been in the hospital since we have been finding new things out everyday, he had hemmoraging in the head that stoped he has a fractured cheek bone we found this week he is aniemic, they gave him a blood transfusion yesterday 2pts he also got Phnemonia by last saturday and we just found out today he has internal bleeding in his lung and somewere else interanlly im not sure were, I just really want to know what will have to be done to stop the bleeding ? Its been over a week, does this make a difference on seriousness of the bleeding? Can anything be done about this? I wasnt at the hospital and i did not get to ask the doctor myself. I just dont know if he will be ok!!!!!!!!!!!
