I hit my head against the sharp corner end of a shower that was hanging over the edge of a trailer. Basically I have a small chunk of skin that was taken out just above the eye. I've already gone to the doc, but they just put a small butterfly stitch over it that did nothing other than preventing it from scabbing over. I think they just put it over the wound itself. Now its still basically fresh, should I go back and have them stich it up right, or wait till the whole thing scabs over this weekend (again its like a half a centimeter in diameter, and there is no skin, just red mucsle. at least I think its muscle since the area is red, but it is also very shallow, only a couple mm deep). I got it last teusday, and its no longer bleeding, but still looks like it should be patched up.

Yeah thats what I'm saying, the wound is still basically fresh except its not bleeding. The butterfly stich just went over it and prevented it from scabbing.

Juliana: it is basically a puncture wound, because it looks like a chunk taken out rather than a scrape or scratch.

I can only tell you about an experience I had with my then-3-year-old son (he's 29 now). He was on a bicycle with a teenager (don't ask). He fell, the teenager tried to catch him. Before they stopped, most of my son's skin on the right side of his face, was gone from scraping the tire and the ground. It looked very scary. Of course he was seen in the ER. We left on vacation a couple of days later. He went swimming in the resort's pool. The next day, his wounds were mostly green. Again to the ER. They cleaned off all the green, administered NeoSporin, and put gauze over it. They told me to clean it and use NeoSporin every day until he was mostly healed.

It was all VERY SCARY and I thought he was scarred for life. But, it all healed. New skin covered the places where there was none. Except in one small spot that you have to know about already, you cannot tell that he was hurt.

I think you need to watch for infection and keep the area clean. I've read some articles that say NeoSporin should not be used, but I believe it was instrumental in healing the wounds. It's up to you. Let it heal.

Go to the store get some butterflies. Patch 1-2 of them over the area to close it. Put some neosporin over the area, then a piece of gauze and tape it. You might look goofy but it will keep the area sanitized and covered. Change the bandage every 12 hours. If the wound develops pus, redness, go back to the doctor because it might be devloping an infection.

You only have a few hours after a cut to get it stitched up. It can not be done after that unless they recut it leaving fresh edges. It sounds like it will heal just fine and I wouldn't give it another thought. I've never been one to run for stitches every time I get cut and have survived some horrendous gashes including one caused by the hoof of a horse on my head which was 7 inches long and gaped wide open. I cleaned it out every day for 3 weeks and it is just fine now. It is amazing what the human body can do on it's own.

You're the one with the wound, so if it feels wrong to you, then you should definatly do something about it. Either go back to the doc or a nurse, but if the first time they didn't do too much about it, then it probably isn't anything to lose sleep over. Scabbing over is the body's bandaid, the natural way to keep infection out, so scabbing shouldn't be a bad thing. Mainly keep it clean, but if it gets worse or doesn't heal then maybe you should see a doctor.

If all wound edges do not meet, if the wound is open in any part of it, go back to your doctor and have her/him apply Steri-strips to close the wound edges completely, if it's not too late. If you prefer, you can buy butterfly bandaids and use them to achieve the same effect.

Sutures are used in a variety of wound treatments, not just punctures. I agree they're not used in abrasions, but this isn't an abrasion.

Stiches are used with a puncture wound not a "scrape" wound. I would suggest neospurn and bandage. If it starts to ouze than go to the doctor or if it start to turn red around the area you might have in infection. Good luck

You cannot place stitches in a wound from several days ago.
