I had shoulder surgery six weeks ago for a closed fractureof the humerus with a fixation plate put in. I have been diagnosed with frozen shoulder. Recently a popping sensation has developed during my physical therapy. What could be the cause?

It could be many things...a piece of scar tissue, a small tear in the labrum (the cartilagenous ring that surrounds the "socket"), an airbubble, a rough spot on a tendon...most popping noises are benign...meaning they are nothing to worry about. If it causes you pain, however, be sure to follow up with your surgeon

I would have to say either a building of scar tissue, or possibly a torn labrium from the trauma of the fracture. If a pain in the shoulder starts to develop from any ball cup rotation, get it checked out, because the damage can be permanent and movement inhibiting.

I would suggest you consult the physician who performed your surgery, and the physical therapist in charge of your post-operative treatment.
