I have a small swell on my knee. It's been there for awhile. It doesn't hurt when I press on it but when I tried to put ice on it last night, it hurt alot. It doesn't hurt when I put weight on it but when I swing my leg forward during my stride, I can feel it hurt (but it's not terrible.) Should I get it checked out or just wait to see if it goes away?

I had an injury from grappling years ago. Went to hsptl but they couldn't find anything. Knees always hurt after that but not to the point I couldn't participate in sports. This last summer I fell off of a platform about 7 feet high and landed on my knee caps. I got medical treatment but all they told me was that I had tight quads and to go to physical therapy. I did for 3mos and nothing helped. They tried to balance my hips out but couldn't. Finally I had x-rays and still orthopedic dr. couldn't find anything, said i need an MRI but costs like 2K! (I am a student). My knee really hurts now all the time- especially when sitting with leg bent even a little. Pain is under knee cap at center in middle. It hurts to walk, (almost limping) & feels like my knee is going to give or lock when I'm going down stairs. I have to keep leg straight 2 avoid pain. No swelling at anytime. I feel I will not be able to be active again , knee just hurts too bad. What can i do? Thank you 4 helping me!

it has been over 9 weeks now and i feel i am just being fobbed off by the consultant. he originally told me he would know after two months if he would need to pin my foot but now he has moved the goal post!!!!!!! i came out of plaster this week and he told me that it has not healed as he had hoped it would, i have to go back in 6 weeks time for more X-rays and then 6 weeks after this i have to go back for further X-rays(end of Jan 2007) he will then think about putting a pin in the foot. he has told me to walk on it as normal, go back to work in a weeks time(i am on my feet all day). when i try to walk it feels as if i have stone digging into my foot and it is stinging all the time. i cant bend my toes as it hurts and i have tried to drive but this is painful, i am going to have to drive as i can't get to work other wise when my sick note runs out. the consultant made me feel a nuisence. anybody had trouble with a broken metatarsal ??????

I tore my achilles tendon about a month and a half ago. It really hurts. I've been going to a podiatrist and he said that I didn't need surgical treatment. I've been in a walking boot since then and the pain hasn't eased a bit! The Dr. did a MRI of it and said it was just a little tear and the "fibers" around the tendon were completely torn. Could I have torn my achilles tendon further? What should I do? All the treatments aren't helping and I'm tired of taking pain medication.....Thank you!

Hello all,

Just a question. I am a 27-year-old woman and I am wondering if this is normal. Whenever I go to bed or say I am napping whether its a 1 hour nap or I am getting up from a nights sleep I have to hobble out of bed until I get moving more--this has been going on for the last couple of months it almost feels kind of like tendonitis in the ankles, however my calves are so tight when I first get up that they hurt to move as well...I mean I am not 18 but I am not old either is this normal you think or is it just from being stiff from sleeping through the night? cause once i get moving around I can walk just fine and stuff.

just curious--thanks--Jammiegirl

I dislocated my shoulder a couple of weeks ago, and my arm's been in an immobilizer since then. Because my arm has been at my side basically 24-7, my forearm's numb. My mom, who's a nurse, thinks I might have pinched a nerve. What can I do about this?

I had been horseback riding for about a year adn i started getting a little pain in my tailbone. I didn't think anythign of it until it got really bad all of a sudden. The trauma from the horse sort of built up until it just couldn't take it nemore. I have been to chiropractors, physiotherapists, had acupuncture done, as well as seen numerous doctors including a bone surgeon. Nothing seems to help. I use a dougnut but it still hurts, doctors have said it isn't broken buti haven't been able to ride for almost a year and i reall yeant to get back to it. Sometimes i feel a little improvement but it doesn't really last. THe bone surgeon suggested cortazone (said it is very painful) and mentioned the possibility of surgery but i have heard bad things aboutthe surgery. i just want to fix this so i can ride again... does anyone no what could help??

Ok, this is really irritating me. When somebody cuts of there foot for example, you would tied a piece of cloth around the ankle to prevent the rest of the leg from draining blood.

This is called a turnakit correct? If so, how in the heck do you spell it? If not, what is it actually called?

I was admitted into A&E last week after swallowing a fish bone and vomitting a copious amount of blood. The bone felt as though it was stuck in the back of the throat but X-rays and a scope couldn't find anything. The doctor assumed that the bone was passed down. It's been a week but the right side of my chest hurts alot when I eat or drink. It feels like heartburn but I m quite sure it is not. Can anyone give me an explanation of why it hurts in the chest and not the throat? And what should i do?

About a month ago i slammed my finger in the car door BOY did it hurt! anyways i ended up going to the emergency and they
released the blood from under the nail, the doctor also told me my nail root had fell out but he put it back under and all was fine. About a week after half of my nail was coming off it was just hanging there so the other day i decided to cut off as much as i could with some nail clippers. To my suprise there is half of a nail sitting there under were the old one was and half of my old nail is still clinging on for dear life. The new nail is really close to my thumb and the skin seems to be lifting alittle bit over the old nail. will the nail just push its way over the skin ? or am i going to have a problem?

I've got weak knees and I've been told not to jog anymore. However, I'd still like to keep fit. I've been swimming regularly. Just wondering if swimming still places pressure on the knees? Because when u're underwater, each time you "kick", aren't you also placing pressure on the knees?

A missed torn ligament in the center of my wrist is now gone and I had 4 bones removed instead of a fusion. Has anyone here had a bone fusion done on their wrist? I cannot twist my wrist under any kind of strain and may need to have the wrist fused for stability. Would like to know if anyone has had the fusion done to alleviate pain on the side of the wrist. Thank you.

0o, I have carpel tunnel- numbness in my fingers, hands, and arms, especially at night! I do have the wrist braces to use at night, but I find that I must use an elaveted pillow/wedge, and 2 pillows on each side of my body to rest my hands on, if I try to turn to either side, the opposite hand/arm will begin to hurt/burn, like when your foot falls asleep.
does anyone else suffer from this, and is there any vitamins that will help with my poor circulation.
any advice greatly appreciated.
