As the skin is lifting it should be cut away, it should be dead skin without causing bleeding. Best to keep the nailbed clean and free of extra bits for the new nail to come in, it wil grow as your old nail did, from the cuticle out, the new nail may be deformed permanently. Use massage, rub gently at first from cuticle out over the nail and nail bed to stimulate blood circulation, healing, nail growth and it actually smoothes out the healing fibers in your skin and will reduce lumps/scarring in the skin and perhaps the nail. Good luck! I know that hurts like HECK! I did the same and my bone ached like crazy if pressed. I am still massaging to reduce the bump on the bone.

Hm...well I have never personally dealt with this situation. I did know that new nails can grow. My initial answer to your question was that your nail will just grow over the skin, and you won't have a problem. It just seems like that would be the natural way our bodies work. Just leave it alone and see what happens, if it causes problems you can always go back to the doctor.

My daughter mashed her toe on a fireplace poker and knocked it off it is coming in slowly and a bit ugly looking lol but it is growing back and pushing the last remaining bits away so just give it time. I think you'll be fine and the new nail should eventually make it in fully with no problems just trim a bit at a time till it's all new nail.

Dont worry. thats what is suppose to happen. have you ever cut your nails way to short? well your skin will start to grow over it alittle (kinda like a scab but its just skin) the nail will push it away as it grows. Dont worry, it will be fine.

Don't worry. As long as you do not have an infection, the new nail will grow through and push the old one away.

It will get pushed forward along with the new nail as it grows. It takes quite a while but it will grow out. Bummer huh?

I did something similar. The new nail will be thin and britel for awhile but it will gro out under the old one. The old one will fall off eventually. let it take it's course. Clip off the excess so you don't snagg it.

go to the doctor already!! you might get an infection. your nail won't 'move over', you need a professional to look at it or you'll end up with a weird nail and girls don't like that.

Wrap it so you don't snag it and pull it off. That hurts like hell too. It will grow out with the new nail.
Had a smashed toe once and it grew the same way. It pulled off by covers while sleeping. I never went back to sleep that night.
