it has been over 9 weeks now and i feel i am just being fobbed off by the consultant. he originally told me he would know after two months if he would need to pin my foot but now he has moved the goal post!!!!!!! i came out of plaster this week and he told me that it has not healed as he had hoped it would, i have to go back in 6 weeks time for more X-rays and then 6 weeks after this i have to go back for further X-rays(end of Jan 2007) he will then think about putting a pin in the foot. he has told me to walk on it as normal, go back to work in a weeks time(i am on my feet all day). when i try to walk it feels as if i have stone digging into my foot and it is stinging all the time. i cant bend my toes as it hurts and i have tried to drive but this is painful, i am going to have to drive as i can't get to work other wise when my sick note runs out. the consultant made me feel a nuisence. anybody had trouble with a broken metatarsal ??????

I think you should get a second opinion but are you taking extra calcium or comfrey (herbal remedy) to help the bone to heal? I can really sympathise with you as I broke my ring finger in two places in April this year and although the fractures have healed the damage to the knuckle joint hasn't and I cannot hold anything in that hand as the fingers won't bend. Like You I have been back and forth for months, waiting around for x-rays, etc. Now the Consultant says I need a joint replacement and I have been given a date of May 2007, In the meantime if I forget and try to use the damaged hand I get dreadful pain - the Consultant said to take pain killers!! I hope you can get something sorted out as I know how frustrating it is not to be able to get a clear answer out of someone who should know. Best of luck.

All this trouble is because you haven't got a name like Beckham. I love the way no-one on the face of the planet had ever heard of a metatarsal whatsit before the great Beckham broke his! Now every Tom, Dick and Harry are snapping theirs with careless abandon and moaning that they don't get the care of Big B! It's a real shame isn't it, that we are all not that famous, or rich!
