I have a small swell on my knee. It's been there for awhile. It doesn't hurt when I press on it but when I tried to put ice on it last night, it hurt alot. It doesn't hurt when I put weight on it but when I swing my leg forward during my stride, I can feel it hurt (but it's not terrible.) Should I get it checked out or just wait to see if it goes away?

Wait for one week or even less but if it still pains consult a doctor. Maybe you fell on your knees previously and now it's paining.

If it has been swollen for a while and has not gotten any better, I personally swould see a doctor about it. You never know what you could have done to it. It might be a little fluid build up or it might be a tear of some sort.
