My aunt was in an accident last Friday, and her brain was without oxygen for over half an hour. She is now on life support (against her wishes). Her heart is beating unassisted, but she can't breathe without the tube, nor can she move. She can open her eyes but doesn't show any recognition of family, and hasn't shown signs of understanding (hand squeezes, blinking yes or no). She isn't married nor does she have children. The doctors have told my grandparents there is no brain activity, and she will be most likely never breathe on her own again. If she does she will be a vegetable for the rest of her life. They are asking my grandparents to donate her organs. Has anyone ever seen someone with this type of injury recover and lead a normal life again? Is it even possible after 30+ minutes without oxygen? (She was given CPR and the paddles at the scene.) To be honest I don't like them going against her wishes, and suffering. I'd rather she live on through her organ donations.

I was in a bad accident yesterday about 7pm. I smashed into a guardrail doing about 50mph to a complete stop with the guardrail lodged into the passenger side. I was fortunate though, and I only had bruises on my knees & elbows, with minor body aches & pains, except in my chest/sternum area where it had hit into the custom steering wheel, which didn't have an airbag. It was amazing I lived.
I did not have insurance, and was in pretty good condition, considering the damage, so I did not have the paremedic take me to E.R.
I know sometimes you can damage the aoritc area, with a blow like that, and was worried about possible internal damage. I finallly went in the E.R. today, and they did the EKG. I wondered if I should have insisted on the CT scan. The results were good on the EKG, so is there any need to be concerned further? I cannot hardly do anything requiring physical stregnth from the chest area.

I've tired different beds and that did not help. It hurst most in the morning and feels better after 15 minutes of stretching. I don't want to take pills and I do not want surgery. I do not have pain going down the leg. I'm not over weight. I bicycle about 20 miles a week and am in good shape. The chiropractors said my disc near the L5 is just worn out and that it will hurt till I die. I'm only 40 years old and want to do another triathlon next year, but can't do much because of the back pain.

I rolled my ankle (stepped on someone's foot playing basketball) about 6 months ago, and my ankle is still swollen. The whole ankle area is not swollen, just the outer ankle bone. There is no pain and I am able to play sports just like always. Any ideas why it would still be swollen, and what I can do about it?
