Go to the doctor mate - sounds like it could be a blood clot/deep vein thrombosis/embolism.

Needs to be looked at, but if it is a blood clot, making sure you get it dealt with before it travels to the lungs or heart is essential.

Leg Swollen Below Knee

Marnie is dead on correct. I have the same problem. Mine is associated with flat feet, and that causes shin splits. This can be aggravated if you are, like you say, overweight and out of shape, like I am. There are many things you can do. 1. See a foot specialist about some good quality shoe inserts. Tell him what you are doing. 2. Stay off the treadmill and use the bike. That can just as easily get the heart rate up and takes the stress and impact off your knees, shins, feet, all your joints, really. 3. Be patient. If you take some time on weight training building up the muscles and revving your metabolism to burn more fat, you'll notice an improvement in how you feel, and less pain MOST IMPORTANTLY - see a doctor about anything you are going to do if its causing you pain. A personal trainer never hurts either, if they are good.

yes i agree with the others my husband was told to watch for clots as he has alot of health problems and clots were a possibility, and the symptoms you describe it does sound a little worrying. If there is a bruise or a lump which stands out more than the rest or is more painful/swollen than any where else then mark it with a pen and if it moves out of your mark then you really need help soon. But i would get it checked out as only by looking and feeling it by a qualified doctor can give you the correct diagnosis. It must be worrying you enough to post a message on here so just get it checked out asap.
I hope this helps you some what but dont worry, but please get it looked at.

this could be phlebitis, cellulitis, trapped nerve or DVT. the first two need antibiotics - 1st one is a skin infection which is very painful causing the leg to swell and be painful, the 2nd one is a break down of skin tissue causing the leg to be hot, itchy, painful, swollen, it eases of when raised but is extremely painful in the initial moments it is lowered and vice versa when it is raised. to be honest i don't know that much about the other 2 conditions i mentioned but i do know that you should visit your doctor ASAP and get a proper diagnosis. hope you feel better soon.

It's not swaolen all the ime so can't be deep vein thrombosis. Not cellulitus because it is not red, painful and itchy all the time. Sounds like an arterial problem, get help soon from doctor or hospital or it may fall off... Good luck!

It could possibly be a deep vein thrombosis. You need to see a doctor asap. Call NHS direct right now - they may consider it an emergency.

It sounds like cellulitis. My mum gets this 3-4 times a year.
Go see you doc right away.
Good luck.
