Injuries - June 2006

My pinky toe and the toe next to it wont move...my foot is feeling paralyzed from my middle toe over to my pinky toe. I cant stand it because it sends sharp pains up to my shin. Also my pinky toe seems to have shifted away from my other toes a bit as well. There is a considerable gap between it and the toe next to it. I did this when I jumped up and when I came down 1/2 of myfoot hit at the base of a pillar in my house. It bent my foot and toes funny.

I once heard a news that a woman survived after she accidentally broke her neck by falling from her own roof... I didn't get it, how come?!?

Well, any doctor or physician to explain what's actually happening inside our very own body when we break our very own neck? Why do in most cases, people instantenously just die?!? And why do in (very) few cases, some people can survive and don't die?!?

Thanks for all of your feedback. I'm a fighter, so I must know stuffs like this. Never know when it will come in handy! ;)

I am a 61 year old man who was in a car accident 13 years ago and have a broken back (T-4) with rods, pins and wires that are irriating, sleep apnea, arthritis, sciatica, pressure sores starting on my buttocks, severe insomnia and nerve damage causing other pains. My body does not work well with most pain meds, mainly narcartics, in fact the patch makes me ill so it does not help. I am getting frustrated and depressed with all this going on. Please, someone, let me know soon.

Got a bad cut on my finger Sunday, bled more than I ever have, not enough to warrant a transfusion I don't think but I was feeling faint that day and had to lie down after I got my finger bandaged up. Is there a way to "speed up" the blood-making process or does that happen automatically after you get a wound? This is probably a pretty clueless medical question but that kinda stuff has always turned my stomach so I honestly don't know. Also, are there any certain things I can eat or drink that will help speed healing and get more iron back in my blood and all that stuff...?

I think I twisted my ankle yesterday, not really sure how . It was a little swollen last night but wasn't too bad this morning so I went ahead and went to work. Now it is extremely swollen, but not bruising or discolored. And it hurts to walk on it. I know I need to stay off of it but should I go to the hospital and have it looked at too?

Need any info on the subject of paralises and erectial dysfunction. He only has feeling from chest up, so we are wondering if he can get an erection? Any info or personal experiences are greatly appreciated. He has takin viagra and said it has worked but not sure if everytime he took it it worked. Please help us we dont know where to find info about this subject.

I cannot make a fist with my right hand, I have numbness & pain.in my fingers. My left hand is similar.
I had two open heart surgeries last year. The problem was on my right hand before the surgery, but has worsened. Does anyone know what causes this & what can be done about it? Heart surgeon, plastic surgeon, cardiologist, GP, PA & physical therapist all had the same answer. Looking for a better answer than “Hm-m-m”.

surely it shouldnt itch so that we don't accidentally take it off whilst scratching. it's not infected, even the nurse says itching is a sign of healing. WHY though!?

I was lighting off fireworks, and while i was in a hurry to light the 2nd one ( i burned 2 small one at a time-the sparks were hitting my thumb)) I burned my thumb (right hand-the side that goes in the direction of my body) I try to striaten my arm as it feels like a bad kink, and it doesn't help!!! i have it as if the elbow is broken, as it hurts sooo bad... I don't know whats wrong? i couldn't even open medicine bottles (childproof caps)
could there be a nerve that runs though there?

I had a cartilage operation back in 1978 and also had some ligament damage which was never repaired. This leaves my knee weak when doing exercise etc... I would like to find the best knee brace/support (available online or in the USA). I have tried a few inexpensive ones that slide around or stop blood flow or just don't give much support, can anyone suggest one (no matter the cost)that has worked the best for them.

I am looking for a Dr for back pain .I have had one surgery in 1995and have been to pain clinics for the pain but i need to find a good Dr who knows how bad back pain is and will give medications to keep you out of pain.I have had a few mri's and they show herniated disc and pinched nerves.I need a Dr who will accept medicaid.Any help you can offer nwould be greatly appreciated.janstacy59@netzero.net
