I just got hit by a swinging door and my nose is bleeding.

I am a certified doctor RBH at this is what we are told by medical legislation 43.56
Hold the side of your nose that is bleeding- with pressure from your fingers and apply a cold compress. Don't tilt your head too much the nose is connected to your air pipes and lungs, etc, and the blood will pool down that way. If the nose does not stop bleeding in 15 mins, seek medical attention.
Be gentle with it for a while after it does stop, don't blow it too hard, etc. Don't take aspirin for the pain, or ibuprofen, they thin your blood. Tylenol will be ok.

In boy scouts they taught us to pinch your nose and lean foward. If you tilt your head back, the blood just flows down your throat. If you lean forward, it will clot and stop bleeding.

Put bacon in your nose. I have thin blood and get bloody noses all the time. They told me to put raw bacon in my nose to slow down and stop it from bleeding. Something within the bacon causes the blood in your nose to clot properly.

I stick some Kleenex in my nose til it stops bleeding.

whatever you do dont tilt your head back. Tilt your head forward and let it run its course. If it is severley bleeding and it wont stop then call a Doctor.

pinch your nose and tilt your head back, basically just apply pressure until it "scabs" up and make sure not to pick it. there's some knowledge, and knowing is half the battle!
