Facts: Male, 60-65 (64 I think), Caucasian, very demanding work habits.
Revealings: X-rays and MRI's revealed somesort of cyst between the L4 and L5 region, which is believed to be caused by CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) leakage. Pain in right leg and lower back, pain medicine not working ( Tramadol, Viking, etc). Pain has reached the point of where it hurts to lift arms over head and to stand for long periods of time. His doctor set up to talk to a surgeon but the earliest date was in Late May. Also note that he has had two injections that temporialy worked (first one a couple of days, second one about a week). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for help such as, herbs, home remedies, names of good surgeons, tips and just plain out good advice. The doctor has given him the run around for about 5 months now.

Thanks,
Brian G.

3.5wks ago my left foot was run over by a shopping cart. 2 days later pain and could not put weight on the foot. went to dr. got xrays. came back negative for breaks and fracture. spent 10days in bed to keep weight off the foot. My foot is still swollen and throbbing slightly ...even after a night sleep and not being on it for over 7 hrs.
There is really no black or blue bruise marks there is however a slight red mark where the cart hit my foot.
also need to mention that sameday the same foot was stepped on prior to cart running over it. Then 2 days later I stepped backwards and lost ballance into a ditch. it was that night that pain started.
I have gone 3x to a accupucturist and it seemed to help alittle however my big toe and the one next to it seems alittle numb due to slight swelling. I soak foot in hot water, spa. and it seems to feel better.
why is this still swollen and why does it hurt still? cant really put weight on ball of foot. could it be infected inside?

I've been sick for the last few days so I've stayed in bed. I've found that lying in bed actually makes my back feel worse, and last night I felt like a shock went up to this area on my back. Every couple hours I kept waking up with back pain.

The area that hurts is slightly below the middle of my back, to the right. My bed has a lot of indentations in it, and no matter what position I tried my back still hurt.

While I was lying there in pain I turned on the tv and saw a commercial for the sleep number bed, which they claim has good back support and will help people with back pain. I also remember seeing commercials for temperpedic that claim the same thing.

The rest of my family uses Sterns and Fosters and like those beds. Are there any studies on which beds are good for people with back pain?

I was wondering if I take it out now will it heal up faster. I know I won't be able to put it back in. Or would it be better to wait until the swelling goes down and it heals, then take it out? I know it was stupid to get it done in the first place. But I had it done before and it closed up and I thought that I wanted it done again. But now it is just getting on my nerves so I am considering taking it out.

I stubbed my big toe five days ago. Its been swollen and slightly bruised ever since. It's been getting better, but still hurts. The first couple days it hurt very badly to even touch it. However, now I can apply pressure to it with my finger, bend it (not completely), and can even walk on it normally with only slight pain. Could it be broken? It is ok to walk on it? Is it necessary to go to the doctors? Thanks!!.....

I woke up in the middle of the night with unbearable cramp in my left leg. It was at the back of my knee. It got worse and worse over about 1 minute, and then eased off. I now have a dull ache behind my knee and it feels really sore to touch. To make matters worse the same thing then happened with my right leg! When the cramp came on I flexed my foot but it seemed to make it worse. Is it because I am not doing enouch exercising? It has happened before but never such severe pain and never has it ached so badly afterwards!

Since straining ligaments in both my ankles doing taekwondo on the same day I have not trained in 5 weeks. I have noticed after about a week I was waking up with sore feet, sometimes after getting out of my car it's the same. Someone has sugested this could be crystals forming due to lack of exercise? is this the case? what can I do about it?

I have a friend that has been taking lots of pain killers everyday for the past year an on an off for several more. She wants to get off but she says the aches, pain, and sleeplessness is to much. Is there any thing over the counter she can take to help or just anything anyone can think of besides rehab that will help her get over this???

Okay, so heres the story. I went to the dentist about a week ago to get 2 fillings. When he went to numb my teeth with a shot in the gums, my cheek swelled. He thinks he either hit a muscle or a blood vessel or possibly both. It has been a week today and it is swollen still but not to much, I have a huge bruise on my cheek and by my eye, it also hurts to open my mouth to far. Now heres the deal, my dentist said to ice it and do not chew any gum and it will get better. A different person (who is kind of a dentist) said to use heat on it and chew as much gum as possible. I do not know who to believe.. what do you think?
