This sounds like you have TMJ, which affects the joints of the jaw. When you have the pain apply hot towels to the joints on both sides of your head. Do this for fifteen minutes. Rest for fifteen minutes then take an ice cube wrapped in a paper towel and massage both joints with this. Do this at least twice a day. This will help minimize the pain. Also take an anti inflammatory medication such as Advil three times daily and when you have this problem.

It would be best if you see a dentist for this type of problem.

I dont know if my pain is similar to yours.. but I used to click my jaw accidentally when chewing meat or bread.. My dentist told me to stop moving it around so much (I tend to do it because I feel as though it's locked in place)... and try eat softer foods for awhile, give your jaw a break..
Make sure you're not lacking in any vitamins.. When i started uping my calcium, I found that my pain eventually went away..
Good luck, and see a dentist or doctor about it if it keeps on going! ^^
