I'm 17 too, and sometimes I have pain in my left side aswell. It's usually tension, stress and anxiety problems. I worry too much. Do you tend to fret over things too? A doctor can't really cure your stress, but you can do things to relax and the chest pains eventually will stop.
Make sure you get plenty of sleep, exercise, relaxing baths, eat a good dinner so you'll feel sleepy.
Common Causes Return to top
Other causes of chest pain include:
* Asthma, which is generally accompanied by shortness of breath, wheezing, or cough.
* Pneumonia, a blood clot to the lung (pulmonary embolism), the collapse of a small area of a lung (pneumothorax), or inflammation of the lining around the lung (pleurisy). In these cases, the chest pain often worsens when you take a deep breath or cough and usually feels sharp.
* Strain or inflammation of the muscles and tendons between the ribs.
* Anxiety and rapid breathing.
Chest pain can also be related to problems with your digestive system. These include stomach ulcer, gallbladder disease, gallstones, indigestion, heartburn, or gastroesophageal reflux (when acid from your stomach backs up into your esophagus).
Ulcer pain burns if your stomach is empty and feels better with food. Gallbladder pain often gets worse after a meal, especially a fatty meal.
In children, most chest pain is not caused by the heart.
Home Care Return to top
If injury, over-exertion, or coughing have caused muscle strain, your chest wall is often tender or painful when you press a finger at the location of the pain. This can often be treated at home. Try acetaminophen or ibuprofen, ice, heat, and rest.

For the answerer above, your appendix is on the right side.
No one can tell you what is wrong with you from the information you've given. What on earth makes you think it could be your heart? Pain in your side doesn't have anything to do with your heart. Do you think you're having a heart attack or something? That's practically unheard of in 17 year olds unless they have heart problems from birth or genetic heart problems, in which case you would know you have health insurance. If you're 17 and your parents have health insurance, then you are likely covered by it. Let them know about your pain and see what they want to do.
If it's just a little pain, don't worry so much. Everyone has little aches and pains from time to time. If you're really worried, talk to your parents and ask to go to the doctor. Don't be so concerned unless it suddenly gets worse or you have other symptoms than just a little pain in your side. I really think you're overreacting quite a bit, especially by jumping to the conclusion that it could be your heart. RELAX-- you don't want to turn into a hypochondriac...no one will take you seriously if you ever really DO have a serious illness because they'll think you're just trying to get attention.

More then likely, if you were on the pill at the time of sex.. and negative test results, you're not pregnant. All these symptoms are probably the effects of you not taking the pill anymore. You're probably watching too closely for pregnacy symptoms and not even realizing that you've had them all along. But like I said, probably the effect of you discontinuing the pill. Especially since the pill has such strong hormones in them. My suggestion would be to wait another week or two and take another test. If you're stilll worried after that, seek a doctor's help. They'll give you an accurate answer. Btw, if you were going to freak out about being pregnant, why'd you discontinue the pill. If you don't want to be pregnant, I hope you're not and I wish you the best of luck. I'd advise you to continue the pill and to also use a condom, just to further your chances of not getting pregnant. Condoms will also protect you and your partner from disease (not to say either of you have one) Good Luck!

Normally this type of pain is muscular. You may have been overdoing activities and your muscles are overused. If you are involved in sports cut back a bit and see if this helps.
This is nothing to be scared of. You can apply hot towels or a heating pad to the area of pain for twenty minutes several times a day. This will relax the muscle and help the pain reside.
