I stubbed my big toe five days ago. Its been swollen and slightly bruised ever since. It's been getting better, but still hurts. The first couple days it hurt very badly to even touch it. However, now I can apply pressure to it with my finger, bend it (not completely), and can even walk on it normally with only slight pain. Could it be broken? It is ok to walk on it? Is it necessary to go to the doctors? Thanks!!.....

I would go to your Doctor to get an x-ray.
It sounds as if it may have a small, hairline fracture in it. They are even hard to pick up on x-ray.
It's not a full break and will cause pain, swelling and bruising but not to the point a major break would cause.
You should avoid using your big toe when walking, which will be hard to do as it provides stability.
Go see your Doc ASAP.

The only way to know for sure is to see a doctor and have an x-ray - but I can tell you from my own fractured toe experience, that I was NOT able to bend it after just a few days and it was excruciatingly painful to pressure. It swelled up like a big purple sausage, and I couldn't fit it into a shoe for a couple weeks. This was 10 years ago and I have arthritis in it now. There's not much a doc can do for it except try to limit movement with a splint or something similar.

It sounds like it is. However, all the doctor will probably do is tape it together with a stick under the big toe and have you wear that for several weeks. You can do that on your own. If you want to play it safe though, head to the doctor and have them x-ray it to make sure you didn't break anything farther up when you stubbed it. In addition, stay off it as much as you can so it can rest, reduce swelling, and heal. Good luck & I hope you feel better soon!!!

An xray is the only sure method to determine if you have a fracture. I would tape it to the next toe. Apply ice to the foot and elevate the foot to reduce swelling. Unless the toe is grossly malformed, there will be no additional treatment needed. I am not a physician and make no claim to giving medical advise. I did suffer a similar injury once. Boy does that hurt.
