If you want tougher skin for your hands, do garden work. Your hands won't hurt so much if you strengthen them. There is a putty used for exercise that you can find at like Modell's with aerobic equipment. You just keep squeezing it until it softens. If you do this every day for like 15-20 minutes it will strengthen your muscles. They also sell a very similar putty at like Staples or Office Max. It is usually blue and it is plasticy like silly putty. To heal right now and prevent further damage, get a liquid band aid product. They all work good. But ya could use a pick and prevent all this LOL.

Go to the beach for a few days. I once cut my finger the day before going on holiday, and it healed amazingly fast in the salt air.

...sounds like a Vitamin E deficiency....cuticle moisturizing ....with liquid Vitamin E....saturate band-aid with VE and keep finger covered over night....remove band aid daily letting air and sun light heal.....use moisturizer for hands.....pure lanolin is the best when hands are cracked being exposed to weather and harsh chemicals....
