General Health Care - March 2007

My doctor just prescribed Requip for my RLS...can anyone who has taken it tell me about the side effects you may have experienced? The sheet that came with the medication said some scary things like nausea, vomiting, fainting, sweating, falling asleep during daily activities (like driving the car). This frightens me....I don't know whether to take it or not. But the RLS is really bad...I cannot sleep because of it. I have actually gone 4 nights in a row without sleep because of it.

I was wrestling with my brother and he had me under his arms and I tried to get out and my neck made a noise like "snap" or "crunch"

I cannot pick up my right arm
nor can I turn my neck to the right
and I barely can turn it to the left

I will be going to the doctors in 2 1/2 hours....
I just want to know, what should I expect her to do?

I am in a hell of alot of pain :(

My hand is numb. Sometimes its hot and sometimes it gets cold. i cant feel the tips of my fingers. but i still feel pain in them. i dont know if its a blood clot or something worst. should i go to the doctor? every morning i wake up with a numb hand usually the feeling comes back but today it was very painful and woke me up.

I am 20 years old, and my troubles started when I was just 17. I found when I was studying for the TEE my hands would swell (double their size)... my hands would curl up. I couldn't stand anyone touching them. From that point it was 2 years of occasional flares - which I could deal with, no problems.

The real trouble started 18 months ago. I have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and am getting treatment with a TNF injection called Enbrel (Etanercept). I have to be honest, it has helped immensely.
The Lupus (SLE) and the Fibromyalgia (FMS) is more of a problem. I'm sick and sore every day. I'm so exhausted with battling myself I end up sleeping up to 22 hours a day. I'm struggling to maintain a healthy weight (I have lost 25kgs in 2 yrs). I feel like crying every day - I live with my parents and they have been supportive but they are getting sick of me feeling sorry for myself. I know how they feel, I'm sick of me too! It's so damn infuriating! I've hit rock botton, help???

I'm hoping there's a doctor in the house...lol...I've had a stiff, sore neck for over a month now. It's hard to sleep at night for the discomfort. When I have to turn my neck, I have to turn my whole body. I've tried cold packs, pain relievers, heat, you name it. Nothing seems to help. HELP!!!

dr took me off norvasc to see if that would help but no it hasn't was bottomed out on sodium level and got in order now but had the swelling and red for over a year is making it hard to walk on left foot what should they be doing??? did many tests and all was ok except inflamtion levels over x2 what it should be the red in the face is nose and cheeks and red feet and ankles ty

I play soccer and I sprained my ankle in one of my games earlier. It hurts like crazy and usually when I go down, I get up quickly. I can't put ANY weight on it. I've sprained my other ankle before but it never hurt THIS bad. My question is, how can I stay in shape for soccer, if I can't walk? I need serious ideas please. Soccer means a lot to me.

i think my boyfriend might have alcohol poisoning. he's 6'3" about 180 lbs and he had about 10 shots of vodka maybe more. he's been throwing up for the past 4 hours. he's now throwing up brown stuff and i have no idea what that could be so if anyone knows please tell me. i dont know what to do to help him. im not sure if it is alcohol poisoning or just a hangover...
also he never drinks so the alcohol has affected him alot. he isnt passed out or anything just throwing up. he doesnt have any food on his stomach either....
ive tried to get him to drink some water and he absolutely will not listen to me. someone please tell me what to do.

After having an MRI, my doctor told me that my spinal column is shrinking. My symptoms are: a burning and tingling sensation in my neck and down my right arm,severe muscle wasting in both of these areas, sometimes when I turn my head I get a sharp pain in my neck, I can hear a grinding sound in my neck when I move it, my right arm will go numb during the day and sometimes when I wake up in the morning my entire scalp and both of my arms are completely numb from my shoulders to my hands. I'm forty two years old and was wanting to know if you have ever heard of this or anything like it ? Thanks.

I had appendicitis 2 weeks ago and one of the incisions is sore and red, and a long string is hanging out of it. I tried giving it a yank to see if it was loose but it isn't. I'm not sure what to do about it but it's giving me the heebie-jeebies.

Hey, about 3 weeks ago I was hit in the eye by a baseball and I visited an opthamologist. He perscribed drops for eye pressure, inflamation, and dilation drops so my pupil wouldn't constantly be opening and closing. I took the dilation drops 3 days in a row, as perscriped, and the inflamation and pressure drugs as perscribed. He said there was no nerve damage or retinal detachment, or cuts in my iris for that matter. Here I am about 3-4 weeks later and the pupil in the eye that was hit is still significantly bigger than the other one. It is not as bad as it used to be, but it is definitely bigger. Does anyone know if it is going to be like this permanently, or if there is anyway to tell? If so, are there any contacts I can use to make my eyes look normal? Thanks.

I read recently that although it is my favorite antiseptic (yes, I have a "favorite" antiseptic...), hydrogen peroxide is actually not as effective at killing bacteria as I thought. What I liked about it was the little hiss and bubbling that you'd see...you KNEW it was working...guess I got fooled.

So I started looking at: what's the best...the type of OTC antiseptic that was like the Spartan Army holding back the Persian hordes (sorry, just saw "300"). The ones I saw were:

-70% isopropyl
-91% isopropyl
-iodine
-tincture of iodine (it seems there's a difference)
-ethyl alcohol
-witch hazel
-something else?

I know my hydrogen p. is out of the running from what I read (sniff!).

Anyone knowledgeable know (we can skip the "wow, they all hurt like the dickens" answers)? From what little I could find on the web, it looks like ethyl alcohol, but I'd love someone to school me! Thanks!

I'm pregnant, and have been dealing with in grown toe nails this past year due to nail fugus (I groom dogs and am always wet in my shoes!!!). I have been able to lift nail out and cut it every few weeks successfully, but the time before this, I got an infection in my right toe and was able to heal it at home by soaking and drawing out infection/pus. This time, it is on my other toe and it is continuing to swell. I can not get the pus to drain out, I've been soaking it and puting on triple antibiotics. I am nervous to go to doctor because due to pregnancy, is it ok for them to numb it? i would like to just have portion or all of nail removed before infection spreads. Should I be calling into work tomorrow, and following days -- will it worsen as I stand on it?
