there isnt enough time for me to get immunised to rabies before i go to africa (i go on february 2nd). im going to kenya, uganda, tanzania, zanzibar, malawi, botswana, zambia, and south africa for a total of 7 weeks. im going to a lot of national parks and camping, and im going to some major cities too. im going with a travel organisation (STA Travel) who should know what theyre doing and roughly 15 other people. im an 18 year old healthy guy. ill be careful and avoid dogs. im not sure ill always be within 24 hours of medical treatment, which is what you need for treatment for rabies. is it safe for me to go considering that i wont be immunised to rabies?

I wrote in once about my daughter having rsd(reflex sympathetic dystrophy). What I didn't get to say was that she's had it since May 2004. Her arm is bent and the hand is deformed with 5-6 inch nails. The hand can not be touched by anyone. It hasn't been washed since surgery. She's been on may pain meds. and many neurological meds. but no help. Her first treatment with the pain block in the neck caused 2 trips to the emergency room with excruciating pain in the head and back. The doctor would not give her anymore blocks for fear of what could happen a 2nd time. She's in extreme pain daily/nightly. All 6 doctors she's seen said hers is the worst case they have ever seen(but of course this is georgia). So i want to know how can someone be treated if the doctor can't touch the hand for examination? He's got to be an expert and know the solution. Remember the surgery was 2 years and 8 months ago. The nerves has deteriorated more. She can not stretch the arm either. Is there still hope?

Im looking for a different opinion of that of my doctor. I'd just like to know if someone is presenting symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain, nausea, slight wheezing, some difficulty swallowing, gas, bloating. What would the diagnosis be.

Just asking because these are all symptoms i've had since May last year and im only now being given a barium meal despite going to doctors twice a week practically and being put on loads of different pills.

Recently, I was in the hospital for 7 days for kidney infection and complications with my pregnancy. I received an IV for antibiotics and fluids, but the line was started in my shin of my left leg. After a day and a half of receiving pain medication, saline flush, antibiotics, and so on the pain and burning in leg was unbearable. It throbbed when placed down to walk and no weight could be put on it without pain. They removed it and started elsewhere but the pain never completely went away nor did the swelling and redness around the site. It has now been 3 days since I have been home and now my leg is beginning to throb again when not elevated and the redness has spread over the entire front surface of my shin. It is very painful and feels feverish with what looks like blood blisters under the skin where the needle was inserted! Should I be concerened and what can I do to aleviate the pain and throbbing?

Sincerely,
dyana m

I had an inferior vena cava filter placed in 2004, about 6 weeks after placement there was a retrieval attempt.
since that retreivel attempt i have had on and off intense sharp pain in my lower back and inside the hip on my right side. (kid of hard to pin point the location of the pain). Is it possible one of the feet of the vena cava filter is poking through the vena cava (or at least bulgin it out) and irritating a nerve leading to the hip / lower back?

The disease is called lymphadema. It has destroyed her lymph sysytem's ability to rid her body of toxic lymph fluid. Have you any information that may help her with pain reduction as we have been unsuccessful in finding anything here in Canada that has truly good effects. Please share any information you have that you know to be used and/or proven in helping relieve the awful symptoms of this disease.
