Doctors and Psychologists don't really know the cause of the condition. Although they surmise that it is caused by a chemical imbalance, which is why it can be helped by drug therapy.

Parents experimenting on their ADHD children have found that putting their children on a gluten free diet works wonders with some. Others are helped by glucose free diets.

It is thought that the increasng pollution in the atmosphere, which is causing all sorts of environmental allergies, may be a trigger that results in ADHD as well. But it is only suppostion at this point. A lot more research will be required to find the causative agent.

It is not related to autism, caused by toxins, poor parenting, lazy parents, tv, diet or any of the other asinine things mentioned above. Those of you who don't know anything about the condition should not be offering misinformation.

ADD/ADHD is a chemical imbalance in the brain - genetic. FYI there are also three different types - Hyperactive, Inattentative and Combination (a combination of the two). The inattentative type doesn't present with hyperactivity at all. The child with this particular type is often very smart, has lots of friends and is adored by adults. The problems arise when they are asked to focus prolonged attention to a task - they are unable to do it. They may also have trouble controling their impulses, though not always.

One of the theories is that people with ADHD have a thin layer of myelin around their neurotransmitters. Since there is not enough myelin, it causes the neurotransmitters to misfire from time to time which in turn makes the person act out, or lose concentration, etc. This is just one of many theories regarding ADHD.

ADHD is part of Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is a milder form of Autism. It is directly caused by toxins -- in particular Mercury from vaccinations. -- please read:

"The incidence of autism has increased from 1 in 10,000 in the 1970s to 1 in 150 today, an increase of over 6,000%. Many more children have been diagnosed with other neurodevelopmental disorders all considered to be on the same spectrum including Asperger's, ADHD/ADD, speech delay, and many other developmental delays and learning disabilities."

"During these investigations, numerous scientists from around the globe have testified before the committee, and have presented credible peer-reviewed research studies that indicated a direct link between the exposure of mercury, a widely known neurotoxin, and the increasing incidences of autism."

- Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN)
Chairman, Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, U.S. Congress Head of Three Year Congressional Investigation into Mercury In Medicine September 8, 2004

The Federal Government continues to downplay the risks of mercury in vaccines, prescription drugs, over-the-counter preparations and dental amalgams despite the growing body of scientific evidence confirming its harm.

Kids are recieving more and more vaccinations today than ever before -- including a Hep B shot on the day of birth. They will receive approximately 30 vaccinations by the age of 5 (that is 25 more vaccinations than I received as a child).

Modern times caused it to become a more common problem. I believe that ADHD is one of those things that use to be less noticed and able to be ironed out before a child reached a certain age but now that we're in that age of the miricle drugs and that parents are not to blame it's more common for parents and thier doctors to believe that there is a problem that is treated with drugs instead of using discipline and proper parenting.

TV does now not intent ADD or ADHD. ADD and ADHD are matters that lecturers built. Today's lecturers have on no account been taught how one can educate common/lively/rambunctious kids. When the youngster acts 'common' - the trainer freaks out and needs the mum and dad placed the youngster on remedy. The lecturers select the youngster to don't have any mind position and take a seat in a chair all day like a rainy noodle. The medical professionals are in on it too on the grounds that they obtain kick backs for each and every prescription they write. My neighbor's healing; NO JUNK FOODS, NO MEDICATIONS AND NO SWEETS. Changing the nutrition - transformed his conduct. The junk meals and goodies have been effecting his conduct and the lecturers attempted to label him with ADD or ADHD - NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Drug companies realizing that they had a huge, untapped market in children.

Parents no longer parent, so slap a medical label on their resulting poorly behaved children and market a magic pill to fix them.
