I am concerned about meningitis. A girl in my class works with a girl who is in the hospital with meningitis. She hasn't seen her for a few weeks, but she was complaining of a headache and feeling sick today. I am afraid to be near her because of meningitis. What are the chances she could spread it even if she doesn't have it? I have had a headache on and off for the past two weeks, but now I am starting to get worried about meningitis. I knolw the symptoms, stiff neck, severe headache, rash, vomiting, but is it possible to have it without these symptoms? Anyone know more about meningitis?

attacks by the body's immune sysytem by mutating a rapid rate, producing geneation after generation of progeny viruses that change before the body can mount a concerted attack, until eventually the viruses overcome the body's defenses. Thus, the viruses present at a late stage of infection are different from those that initially infected the body, though descended from them. Discuss this as an example of evolutin in micrcosm. Which viral lineages tend to survive?

I haven't been feeling 100% for a few weeks. I was tested for mono and checked to see if I was anemic. The tests came back negative. Today however, I felt really achey, exhausted (I've been tired for the past little while but much more so today), sore throat, horrible headaches, chest cough and I was cold most of the day when nobody else was. Overall I felt very very ill. I was wondering if I could have the flu. All my doctor said was that I didn't have a bacterial infection. The flu isn't bacterial, right? I feel horrible!

I understand the basic working of a virus: non-living, rogue genetic strand of information encased in a protein covering, "hijacks" cells to reproduce and carry-out its "function" etc...Please provide a clear explanation.

Sickle cell disease is caused by an autosomal recessive gene. Because the disease causes anemia and pain, parents who have the trait in their families often get tested to see if they carry the gene for the trait.

1.If each parent has one copy of the recessive gene, what are the chances that their children could inherit two copies and have sickle cell disease?

2.If one parent has sickle cell disease and the other parent is not a carrier, then what are the chances that their children would have the disease?

How would I construct a punnet chart for both of these? Be detailed I wanna know HOW you got your answers. Thanks!
