can you transmit the virus/coldsore to someone by kissing someone when the virus is dormant and in the "tingling" stage? not the big bulging bloody ugly lesion stage.

In the tingling stage, no. But as soon as you see a sore yes, it is very contagious. The thing is 1/3rd of all people have some sort of herpes virus in their bodies. Just an F.Y.I. Your doctor can prescribe a pill to help lessen the occurences of the herpes on your lip. Now herpes elsewhere is a total different story. If you feel tingling it is probably contagious cause it starts on the inside first.

Yes and before and afterwards , it depends on the virus , and since lets face it we aren't going to the doctor for a stupid cold sore we don't know for sure,

but honestly its a VIRUS so it can be transmitted with just contact, and air borne depending on the virus and it can sometimes remain dormant , and you could already be infected depending on the incubation period of that virus.

so listen don't lose sleep over it,

but one thing i can tell you,

If you have a Cold sore, and go down on a girl , you are NOT giving her herpes. or the reverse.

herpes gives you herpes, so becareful.

cam is correct, you can contract it at anytime. it's just that not everyone will get a breakout. it's actually amazing how many people actually carry the virus. it's about 1 in 1000.

I am sure you have seen the herpes commercials where the narrarator says "It is still possible to spread herpes even while not experiencing an outbreak." Same concept!
