Is it the direct effect of the virus causing sneezing, excessive mucus, inflammation, sore throat, streaming eyes, shivering and fever, wheezing etc, or is it the immune response going into action to prevent the virus doing more serious damage, or over-reacting against the invasive pathogen, or is it neutral or pathogenic bacteria causing disease, or is it an allergic response to the toxins produced by bacteria?

Or is malignant spirits, pollution in the atmosphere, the weather, not doing enough exercise, impaired immune system, laziness, laying in bed and moaning, smoking, drinking too much, not enough chicken soup?

Okay, I looked in the mirror two days ago and my eye was pink around the corners, and I've had the flu, a cold, and a cough since Christmas. I read up on it and Viral Pink Eye is often accompanied by symptoms of the common cold. My eye hasn't been discharging any clear liquid for about a day and my parents haven't caught anything yet, so I'm wondering if there's things you can do to keep people from getting it because I really really really really want to go to the movies today....?

I had a wound cultured. How long does it take the lab to complete all tests to determine whether there is an infection? I am not asking about sensitivity or time sending reports just lab time to conduct the test.

well ive had the swollen node for about 6 weeks now (assuming it is a lymph node) it keeps changing size and form, from being pretty big and round to the size of a pea on the surface. The spots on the tongue have been there for about 3 weeks on the top back part of my tongue, these tend to make my mouth quite dry anyone got any ideas on what it could be, it cannot be any STD's.

I know that Aids is a sexual disease, but I don't think that this is the reason why many Africans have it.

My wife and I went out to dinner tonight, and she stopped eating her dinner about 4/5ths of thew way through it. when she got home she told me that her stomach felt like she over-ate.

35 minutes later she goes into the bathroom and vomits, and comes back out saying that she feels much better. But it only gets worse from there. Within the next 2 hours she goes back 2-3 more times to vomit. Now I know something is wrong. She completely purges her stomach of any remaining dinner food, and is struggling to keep down any Gatorade or water.

I got really worried when she vomited for the 8 or 9th time within 3-4 hours of dinner, so I went and got some Pepto Bismol MAX (the x2 stuff), In hopes that it would calm her stomach. 15 minutes later she proceeds to vomit it up. We're running out of options, and I read after I gave her the PB that I shouldn't have administered a mild anti-emetic, and I should let the possible food poisoning run its course.

But I'm worried: E.R. or No? HELP PLEASE!

I live across the street from a retirement home, sometimes I take a shortcut through the building, I did that today and after I got home I was talking to my mom and she said that her sister, who lives there, had the flu and that others had it too, how is the flu spread? Could I have caught it even though I did'nt touch anything on my way through? My arms were full so I used my back to open the doors.
