I had a wound cultured. How long does it take the lab to complete all tests to determine whether there is an infection? I am not asking about sensitivity or time sending reports just lab time to conduct the test.

I had a wound cultured. How long does it take the lab to perform the test? I am not asking about sensitivity or time shipping speciman or reports only actual LAB time to complete the test. I am interested in the longest possible time if it were being tested for ANY possible infection.

Depends. Are they shipping it out to a lab, doing it there? What are the exact lab studies being done? Talk to your MD he/she can give you specifics for your case.

Generally 3 to 5 days, depending on the lab, the organism, and the severity of infection. Some infections take longer to culture.

3-7 days, usually 5. If its bad it will grow quick, like in the first 3 days.
