is the splenda sugar only for diabetics? or can non-diabetics have it to?

Anyone else with this problem have adrenal surges when you get low like in the 70's? Does it cause you to have the runs?

I have been on the basic Atkins diet for several weeks and I still can't get it under control. If I don't eat, I am fine, but if I eat even a small meal, I crash.

I was tested for insulin levels when I was fasting and had double normal range. The Endo doc is a jerk. She doesn't think there is any real cases of reactive Hypoglycemia. I asked if it could be an "insulinoma" like the ER doc suggested and she said it is so rare that it would be near impossible to have one.

Any suggestions?

I had blood work done about a month ago and my blood glucose level was 107 and I hadnt eaten in 10 hours since I had to fast for the testing. Im overweight at the moment , currently 225 and only 5'3 but I also dont have any other family members who have diabetes so any insight would be great since Im not sure what to expect at my follow up next week.

My father was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We all knew this was bound to happen because of the history in our family (my dad, his brother, 3 of his sisters, his dad, his dad, and so on). My grandpa suffered immensily from diabetes in his old age. I don't want my father to do the same but as I don't live at home with him, I can't really follow up on his habits. However, I am pretty positive I will end up with diabetes as well. I really don't know what to avoid in my diet and I'm starting to work out. No one in my family is overweight. We actually are all tall and skinny in our family so I'm not sure what we are doing wrong. I guess any information to help me and my father avoid suffering the same way my grandpa did would be great.

One thing that might be a major problem is that I drink Makers Mark and coke on a regular basis....its my favorite drink! If this isn't good for diabetes is there a tasty alternative when hanging with my friends at the bar?

what symptoms would precede someone going from type 2 to type 1?
would it be the normal diabetes symptoms showing up again?
how fast could the change take place - ie, going from having stable type 2 with few symptoms to major symptoms again

How many people are diabetic in the uk?

2007-09-25 23:56:02 · 2 answers · asked by Anonymous

so, i feel like i'm diabetic.
the reason i say this is because
1) i'm slightly overweight. (BMI is way too high 5'4", 174lb)
2) my uncle has diabetes (the kind diagnosed when you're older)
3) i've had two yeast infections in the past month
4) i'm ridiculously slow healer. (i got cut with a pocket knife about 5 weeks ago, and granted it was a fairly deep cut, im still not healed.) (another example, i had a blister on the top of my foot from june to july, not as deep, and it still took a long time to heal. and even though it was like one layer of skin, it scarred)
5) i feel very slow. like, if i havent eaten, i feel dumb. haha like i take a long time to answer a simple question. and its been pointed out to me.
6) i never really feel hungry, just like i could drink an ocean. i will literally sit in the dining hall and just drink while all my friends are pigging out. it makes me feel anorexic, but im just so thirsty.
i dunno, maybe i'm just overreacting
but should i be concerned?

does anyone know an effective way of conquering a sugar addiction. I am a hardened addict who would like to be able to resist my cravings for sugar. I would like to lose weight but my attempts are always ruined by the need for sweets and chocolate.

i'v had a thyroid panel, and been checked for sugar in the urine but the doc says im healthy. I swear I cannot get full and food only feeds the hunger. I eat so much its taking over my life! If i dont eat my stomach growls and i get really dizzy and my lips get chapped. I know this isnt the place for medical questions, but anybody have any experience...for some reason i still think i might be diabetic.

My son has been insulin sependent since he was 8 years old. He's now 23. The last year he has been having terrible problems with control. He is having sudden and unexpected hypoglycemic reactions. There are no symptoms at all of an episode coming on.

Today is was suggested he go to the insulin pump. We have an appointment next week to see about this (we can;t get one before) He can test and be fine, but just minutes later his sugar plumits and he's unconcious.

Can you please give us some info on how the insulin pump has worked for you? Pro's cons (I know cost is a big con, but his life is at stake)

I'm just terrified i'm going to lose my son.

I know that lettuce, cukies, (cucumbers), mushrooms, and celery are considered to be "free" that is sugar free..mostly water based..but, what else is out there...we diabetics have to be really, really careful!!

If you know of a web site with the "correct free" diabetic veggies or fruits...please send it to me!!
or put it here! Thanks! {I lost the list that I had!}

I'm 14, a diabetic, and don't have a cell phone. I also have celiac disease yet still go to my high school football games. I get dropped off. But I have to search for someone with a cell phone all the time to get a ride home. Also, I do walk home from school which is 1 1/2 miles and ride my bike to the baseball fields to play. Sometimes, I do forget glucose tabs and go low. I think a cell phone would be good so I could call my parents when this happens. In one year, this has happened near 20 times. They still won't get me one. My sister got one for her 16th birthday. I have 2 years to get mine and I will be a junior then because I have a July birthday. My sister is a sophomore but has a September birthday. Should i getone for emergencies and convenience.
