A diabetic 9 year old? or Non-diabetic?

A non-diabetic child's BG (blood glucose) range is the same as anyone else's - anywhere from 70-ish to around 120, and a little higher after meals, especially a meal that's high in carbs.

If he/she is diabetic then of course that range is extended. You still want to avoid going under 70 (it will happen sometimes though). Try to stay under 200 where possible, definitely try to avoid any higher than that. (Again, it will happen sometimes - diabetes is a fiddly beast to control)

The range for a diabetic child is wider than for a diabetic adult because they have more spontaneous lifestyles, and their BG can jump or drop a lot faster than an adults. Maintain control as tight as you can, but without putting your child at risk. Highs are to be avoided for long term complications, but for a child lows are extra scary and sometimes more dangerous because they're less likely to notice the warning signs and more likely to drop fast. There's a fine balance there!
