Has anyone had any bad symptoms from taking Trileptal? For example mood swings, confusion, etc. Thank you for any help.

Mood swings and confusion are common side effects with Trileptal and in fact most anti-convulsant medications. In most patients it is a matter of trying different anticonvulsants to get the optimum effect with the least side effects. Additionally, most patients who take anticonvulsants for either seizures or mood disorders take more than one medication at a time and there fore have to deal with the side effects of the combined medications.

I have prescribed anticonvulsants for my patients for years and have had many side effect complaints. Some the patients were able to adapt to, others required discontinuing the medication. If you are having problems, discuss them with your doctor.

I've had to take a variety of seizure meds my whole life.
This one is something I tried a while back, but couldnt stay on as it made me feel worse, and increase my seizures.
I Got headaches, dry itchy skins, and an increase in my depression, Which is a major side effect to a mjority of seizure meds.
It's like a trade off , getting gontrol of you seizures and suffer depression or get rid of the depression and suffer with your seizures and other problems.

I'm here if you need to talk. Drop me a line. I also have my own group on yahoo, That isnt very active right now but will hopefully become alive and full again .
It's called dealingwithepilepsy
I understand what you're going through, I've gone through it many times.

I take trileptal for bipolar. It helps, the only thing i get, are twitches, and ticks. It's not very fun, and at first you gain weight, then you lose it. You lose most of your appetite too, atleast I did.

type in google and voila. Also if you don't feel the medicine is working well with you, see your doctor. Your symptoms might be explained as your drugs target the brain to prevent seizures and your symptoms are all related to emotion/brain. But see a doctor.
